Medicine
If your child has a medical condition you must inform the school via the medical form or by visiting the school office. If your child needs to take prescribed medicine during the school day, Mrs Dubey can administer it. Please bring it to the office with instructions for use and sign the medicine permission form. Medicines should be brought in at the start of the school day and they can be stored it in the fridge if required. If your child has asthma please provide Mrs Dubey with an asthma pump and directions. All pumps will be labelled and kept in the school office. If your child gets head lice please tell the teacher or school office. We can advise on treatment. Please inform the school if your child has any food allergies at the earliest opportunity.
Sickness
When your child is ill and unable to attend school you will need to inform the School Office on the first day that they are sick. You must call into school each day that your child is unwell. If your child is ill while at school and needs to go home you will be contacted by the School Office. It is vital that they have the most up to date contact details for you. The school office is contactable on 020 8994 4782.
Lunch
School dinners are prepared on site by catering staff. The pupils always have a choice of menus including a meat option, a meat Halal option, vegetarian and an alternative option. Pupils that cannot eat certain foods and/or have food allergies are catered for, however the school office must be informed. The meals offer good value for money and encourage healthy eating. In order to access this provision a form must be completed and returned to the school office. For children in Key Stage 2 (years 2 to 6) lunch money should be paid in advance either termly or weekly and cost £10.50 per week. Families receiving income support are entitled to free meals.

Learning
Curriculum
We offer an exciting and challenging curriculum across all key stages using the National Curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum. We pride ourselves on delivering high quality English and Maths lessons on a daily basis. We also offer a range of extra-curricular activities to support learning. We focus strongly on ensuring that all children are making the progress they're capable of and reaching good levels of attainment.
Children spend most of the day with their classteacher. Teaching Assistants work closely alongside class teachers to support children individually and in groups. We also benefit from the support of volunteer readers. We place great emphasis on the need to be aware of the needs of individuals. All teachers use a combination of whole class, group and individual teaching as appropriate.
School Visits/Trips
Educational visits are arranged to support pupils’ learning as well as visits to the school by theatre groups, themed workshop groups and speakers. Such visits stimulate pupils’ imagination and aid their learning but are only possible if they are supported by voluntary contributions from parents/carers. When a child starts at school parents/ carers are asked to sign a form agreeing for their child to be taken on local trips that support their learning. Parents/carers are always informed of trips that are further afield and are asked to sign a separate permission slip. All trips, no matter how local, are fully risk assessed and every precaution is taken to ensure the safety of all the pupils.
Assemblies
We promote the ethos of the school through our daily collective worship. Assemblies involve all pupils from Key Stage 1 and 2 unless a specific request is made by their parents/carers for them not to take part. Assemblies take various forms which include story, singing, reflections, interactive sessions and celebrating pupil’s achievements. Each class has an assembly during the school year to present its work to the rest of the school and their parents/carers. Through assemblies we hope to keep the pupils sense of awe and wonder alive and enhance their moral, spiritual and cultural development. Parents/Carers are regularly invited to attend assemblies.
School Council
We view School Council as an integral part of our PSHCE (Personal, Social and Citizenship Health Education) programme. Through School Council, children learn about the concept of citizenship and the responsibilities and decision making that accompany this role. It gives pupils the opportunity to speak for themselves and on behalf of others, to listen to different views, to co-operate and learn to compromise. The council is made up of two representatives from each class, from Reception to Year 6 – one boy and one girl. They meet with the Headteacher regularly to discuss points on the agenda and are able to raise new issues of importance to them and their classmates.
Safety
Learning, having fun and keeping your child safe through comprehensive risk assessments, policy and procedure is a priority at The William Hogarth School. Full details of our Health, Safety and Security policy are available from the school office.
Sustainability
At The William Hogarth School we are very proud of our Wildlife Garden and growing areas. The wildlife garden features a pond, native British flowers and different insect habitats. We include environmental education in our curriculum planning and are proud to be a silver award ‘Eco School’. The Eco Committee, the Hogarth Greens, and the Garden Club work hard to keep the school tidy, environmentally friendly and to grow a range of plants, fruits and vegetables that can be enjoyed by the whole school.
School Travel Plan
In association with the Hounslow Travel Team, we strive to promote sustainable and environmentally sound transport to and from school. With plentiful scooter and cycle storage on site students love the opportunity to walk, scoot or cycle to school. The school has been awarded a Gold Travel Plan award by the Local Authority and the whole school gets involved to promote safe and sustainable travel led by the Year School Travel Ambassadors. We would encourage you not to drive your car to school; there is no parking available for parents. If you do travel by car you must not drive up to the school gates or wait on the yellow lines. This applies before and after school and is to ensure your child’s safety.
Working Together
We recognise the importance of home and school working together throughout your child’s time at school. We know that it makes a great difference to pupil’s academic progress and to their enjoyment of their education. We have a home school agreement which we hope you will take the time to read, discuss with your child and sign. It will also be signed by the school to signify all our commitment at working together for the good of the children.
Homework
Homework is an effective way of raising achievement. At The William Hogarth School we recognise that this is most effective if it is relevant, purposeful and can be enjoyed by parents/carers working and spending time with their children to support their work in school. For this reason we see homework as an interactive part of family life. A homework timetable is set which increases the time that pupils are expected to spend on homework as they get older. A date for the return of all homework set is given so that it may be marked by the classteacher and feedback given. It is very important it is returned by the set date. Homework will not always include written work but is linked to the curriculum. It is very important that this is completed. The learning will then form part of the child’s classwork.
For pupils of all ages we emphasise the importance of reading at home on a daily basis. This could be sharing a book with an adult whenever possible but also being read to, discussing books and being encouraged to look at books independently. All reading experiences are of great importance to a child’s development.
Communication
The school communicates with parents in several ways:
Emails
Parent Mail

Letters and notes in your child’s book bag
