The Whitney Museum Has Many Family Programs/Events Coming Up

ART NEWS
January / 2016

Happy 2016! I hope you all had a wonderful break whether you traveled near, or far or simply had a, “stay-cation!”Whatever you did, I hope it was great.

It feels like I just wrote the last newsletter-so I thought I would use this one to share a little information about programs at our city’s art museums…especially now that the weather is getting colder, you may want some indoor activities to do with your families on weekends. Many of the museums offer family programs on one weekend a month, or every weekend. I was at the Brooklyn Museum over the break this past Saturday, and it just so happened to be the, “Target First Saturday.” There were activities, music, and free admission for all. The next one will be on the first Saturday in February-so check the museum’s website- I saw the Coney Island exhibit, which was great! Here is some other great museum information:

I have had parents recommend weekend programs at the MOMA-their website is:

The Metropolitan Museum is an easy walk right through Central Park from here! Their collection is so vast, and there are always multiple exhibitions on special viewing there-Downstairs one will find the museum’s education department where the wonderful Nolan library is situated, and classes for kids-checktheir website:

And at the Guggenheim:

JANUARY FAMILY PROGRAMS
Kick off the new year with family programs at the Guggenheim designed for all ages. Don't miss our next Second Sunday Family Tour on January 10, a new Midwinter Break program designed to help families enhance their museum experience, andengaging courses for middle and high schoolers taking place throughout the spring.

.

There is also the Children’s Museum of Art-

“CMA offers a wide range of age-appropriate classes in a variety of mediums. Taught by our team of teaching artists, each of our art-filled courses encourages your child, or teen, to express their creativity while building art technique skills.

Whether they are comfortable with art-making, or trying a new technique for the first time, our goal is to develop each child’s confidence, imagination, and personal style.” This museum has some great programs for students with learning disabilities. Please check their website for more information.

While this list may not be exhaustive of all the art resources through our city’s museums, this is a pretty good start-so get out there-get involved-and take advantage of some of these wonderful opportunities for your children and yourselves.
