Monarchs of the North, Charles Pachter
Presented by the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts
Meet the Artist: June 9, 3-5 pm
Charles Pachter, painter, printmaker, sculptor, designer, historian, and lecturer, is one of Canada’s leading contemporary artists. He was born in Toronto and holds degrees from the University of Toronto, the Sorbonne, and the Cranbrook Academy of Art. He holds honorary doctorates from Brock University, the Ontario College of Art & Design, and the University of Toronto. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Chevalier of France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee medal.
It is also fitting the Pachter exhibition, entitled “Monarchs of the North,” will show concurrently with the finalists for the 2012 Murray J. Clerkson Art Award for emerging local artists, on view in the Clerkson Gallery at the Arts Centre. Murray Clerkson was, like Pachter, an iconoclast and tireless promoter of art on the local scene. In the exuberant personalities of both these artists, we find an immense passion for fearless exploration, humour and the celebration of art in our everyday culture.
