Job description:

Tacoma Community House is seeking a Volunteer Services Manager to manage and leadthe volunteer and Read2Me programs. This is an administrative and professional full-time position under the supervision of the Development/Communications Director. The Volunteer Services Manager isresponsible for selecting, training, and supervising the volunteer staff.This individual will provide direction, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer functions and is a member of the Management Team.

The Volunteer Services Manager will carry out the following duties:

Key responsibilities:

TCH Programs

  • Recruit, select, screen, and assign volunteers in alignment with organizational requirements and objectives
  • Participate in planning, developing and overseeing new programs and services
  • Develop, administer, and review policies, procedures and forms which guide the volunteer programs and services, and reflect the overall values of the organization
  • Ensure volunteer check-in procedures, records of volunteer hours and volunteer evaluations are maintained according to established procedures
  • Develop and implement an intake and interview protocol for potential volunteers to ensure the best match between the skills, qualification, and interests of the volunteers and the needs of the organization
  • Collaborate with department managers with volunteer placement, training and management
  • Train staff to work effectively and cooperatively with volunteers
  • Ensure that volunteers are given appropriate orientation and training to be successful in their positions
  • Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities to recognize the contribution of volunteers to the organization
  • Develop a budget for the volunteer program activities, prepare reports for funding sources, and establish and implement a process for evaluating the contribution of individual volunteers
  • Select, screen, and supervise AmeriCorps members
  • Participate in intra-agency planning, collaborative projects and decision-making activities
  • Actively develop community partnerships that enhance and align with the TCH mission and goals

Additional responsibilities specific to Read2Me Program

  • Supervise and oversee the selection of Read2Me coordinators, substitutes and volunteer tutors.
  • Serve as liaison between TCH and the Read2Me Advisory Committee
  • Develop and direct evaluation plans for Read2Me participants
  • Work with district staff at Tacoma Public Schools to ensure the Read2Me curriculum aligns with the common core standards and with what is being taught in the classrooms
  • Develop relationships with principals and program staff at schools where Read2Me is located

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate must be able to think creatively, act resourcefully, and exhibit excellent communication skills, both written and oral. It is necessary to be knowledgeable of current trends, resources and information related to volunteerism as well as the management of volunteer resources.

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience and/or knowledge of teaching and methods of instruction for elementary literacy
  • 3 years’ experience in supervising and administering a volunteer program
  • Knowledge and experience with volunteer management
  • Experience working within a culturally and linguistically diverse environment 0
  • Excellent skills in the following areas:
  • Planning and budgeting
  • Supervision
  • Technology
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree

Compensation:

The salary is competitive for this position and will depend on qualifications. TCH has a generous benefit package including health, dental and life insurance, and retirement.
