Defining the HVAC Industry: 100 Years of Performance, Innovation, Commitment and Knowledge
Past
Founded in 1913 as a family business by James Trane and his son, Reuben, Trane has a long history of industry-defining innovations beginning in 1925 with Reuben Trane’s invention of the convector radiator – the product that would point the company toward its future success.
It was with the development of the Turbovac in 1938 that Trane became a pioneer in the new field of air conditioning and then expanded into unitary systems for smaller buildings. Since then, we have never looked back.
With the acquisition of Sentinel Electronics in 1978, Trane moved into the important building automation and management field, becoming the first to offer integrated controls for all of its products.
And our days as a leader in residential air conditioning began in 1982, when we acquired General Electric’s Central Air Conditioning Division.
