FIELDTRIP SUMMARY

Thank you to all of the wonderful drivers who helped make our fieldtrip such a wonderful success! The museum was a wonderful place to visit, rich in both California and local history. The students spent time in the museum itself, learning about California’s past, the Bear Revolt, and how Benicia and camels paid such a large roll in military history. We then experienced an ammunition magazine where black powder came to the Benicia docks. The black powder was then brought up from the ships and storeduntil it was sent on across the United States. While in the magazine we saw many artifacts from the many wars that California was a part of. We even saw “graffiti” on the inside wall that dated clear back to the 1800’s. We then headed back in time to “dig in” tosome daily chores from long ago. Though it began to rain on us, the students participated in adobe brick making, a water brigade, corn grinding, steer roping and other great activities.

The students had a wonderful day in Benicia learning about our history.

I would also like to share with you that the Museum volunteers told us that we were the “Best, Most Well Behaved class they’ve had in a long time!” Kudos to our students for demonstrating excellent behavior!!!

VOCABULARY

Vocabulary scores are getting much better. Make sure to go over the vocabulary words throughout the week and remember that upcoming lists may be studied early by checking out the website.

MATH FACTS

Many students are completing the 2 minute math facts quiz on Friday with time to spare and with proficient scores! If you are looking for more math fact practice check out the Mhschool website (there is a direct link on our webpage). If you look around the site you can find pages that can be printed off, as well as, Fact Dash which is a math fact game where you can choose the types of questions, as well as, time yourself. It is extremely important for students who do not have their math facts down, to practice their facts EVERY day.

IN CLASS THIS WEEK:

This week we continue Chapter 4 Statistics: Data and Graphs.

LANGUAGE ARTS

Our new vocabulary words for this week will be barricade, betray, complement and defiant.
