The Teen Scene welcomes those who will be entering 7th through 12th grades in September. Limited registration for all programs begins June 1.

You Never Know @Your Library: 2007 Summer Reading Club

Summer + Reading = Prizes! Join our summer reading club, and e-mail or write short reviews about the books you read. Reporting stars on June 22 and ends on August 18. Last day to join the reading club is August 16.

Books can be on any topic, but they must be on your reading level. Any book from the YA section will be accepted. Reviews should be written on books you read during the vacation, not books you read during the school year. One review will be accepted per day, and it may be written in English and Spanish.

Review forms are available in the Children’s Room, or you can e-mail your review to us at . Include your name and grade, the book’s title and author, and your favorite part of the story. Prizes can be picked up the next time you’re at the library.

Girl Power

WEDNESDAYS, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

JULY18, AUGUST 1, and 15

Girls in grades 7-9 will be empowered by this program designed to make them feel good about themselves and the choices they make. There will be discussion, activities, refreshments, and girl power!

Teen Café

MONDAYS, 6 to 7 p.m.

JULY 9 and AUGUST 6

Come and discuss some of your favorite books, movies, and music. Refreshments will be served.

Sushi Made Simple

Presented by Jo-Ann Tiranno of Passionate Palate

THURSDAY, JULY 12, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

A hands-on class on how to make vegetarian sushi, including sashimi (rolled), nigari (finger shape), oshi (pressed into molds), and reverse rolls. We will also make dessert sushi with coconut rice and seasonal fruit. Explore the use of both common and exotic ingredients. A nonrefundable materials fee of $1 is due at time of registration.

Jewelry Jubilee

THURSDAY, JULY 19, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Jewelry is fun to make and even more fun to wear! Come make a bracelet using an assortment of gemstones, glass, shells, and metal. A nonrefundable materials fee of $1 is due at time of registration.

Xtreme Cakes

Presented by MaryAnne Impostato

MONDAY, JULY 23, 3 to 4 p.m.

Design a rainbow or tie-dye cake using colorful frosting, or make your own creation by painting a picture, writing a message, and decorating with candy and sprinkles. A nonrefundable materials fee of $1 is due at time of registration.

Hair Braiding

Presented by Yormah Generette

THURSDAY, JULY 26, 3 to 5 p.m.

Come learn about the history of hair braiding from professional braider Yormah Generette. Enjoy watching her illustrate some of her unique styles.

Crocheting with an Introduction to Knitting

Presented by Lupe Velasquez

THURSDAYS, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

JULY 26, AUGUST 2, 9, & 16

Come to this series of workshops to learn to crochet or to brush up on your skills with an introduction to knitting. All materials will be supplied. A nonrefundable materials fee of $1 is due at time of registration.

Mosaic Frame Art

FRIDAY, AUGUST 3, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Create your own special mosaic design using colorful ceramic tile. A nonrefundable materials fee of $1 is due at time of registration.

Heavy-Metal Kidnapping: A Mystery @ FML

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8, 1 to 3:30 p.m.

A package delivered to the parents of two kidnapped children contains a ransom note. Students use their library research skills to uncover the puzzling clues and return the kids to their parents.

Drama, Drama, Drama!

Presented by Drama Kids International

FRIDAYS, AUGUST 10 & 17, 3 to 4 p.m.

Whether you are destined for the stage or the boardroom, this program will build your confidence, and improve your speaking and acting skills.

Young Adult Summer Reading Club Party 2007

MONDAY, AUGUST 20, 4 to 6 p.m.

Come and celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Club with us. We will be serving up some lunch and playing games. This program is open to all teens who participated in the club.

Video Game Showdown 2007
