Hero of War

The sun was shining so bright, when suddenly colonel McAdams called for ‘wake up!’ The soldier quickly got up and jumped into his clothes. Michael was his name and he had sad thoughts every morning. He was missing his wife Melissa and his baby to help him getting a piece of normal life during these hard days of war. Kabul is far away from his home, not even only in miles, it seems like a foreignuniverse. The life here was owned by pain and fear to be killed once. And the things, he had to do every day are taking his ability to sleep. No father could ever kill his child. Nevertheless, he had to kill other fathers’ children. The terrified look in their big brown eyes, when they knew, their lives are over now followed him into his nightmares. He had given up searching for reasons for this war and the cause of his commands. He only tried to survive and to have no feelings or thoughts only reacting like a machine.

He had a normal breakfast with no surprises, but hemissed the pancakes with blueberries the way his lovely wife made them every day in his former life. After that, hismate and he were getting into their Jeep, making the everyday-morning tour. One day in the desert was like every other day, the weather was the same every day, the nasty yellow sand was not only damn hot, even though he creped in every skin fold. He started the motor and his mate tried to start a conversation, but Michael was with his thoughts miles away. ‘Look, there might be some persons!’ His mate noticed and said to Michael, who had seen these persons too. It was a troop of men, with a typical afghan array.

The both soldiers drove closer and it seemed as if they were men who are in anemergency. The two soldiers stopped the engine of their Jeep and asked through the windowwhat the matter is. One of the people asked them to come out and to help his friend, because he was bad injured. Michael went out of the Jeep. In the same moment a fire from machine guns started and Michael fall into the hot sand. He felt no pain but every small stone of the sand pressed itself into his skin and the heat of sunshine played oh his body. He thought of his wife and baby before he started falling into a big hole... DARKNESS.
