School District No. (38) Richmond is seeking two full-time District Support Teachers to join our Learning Services department effective September 5, 2017.
The District Resource Teacher Consultant will be required to plan, develop, implement and evaluate appropriate and effective individualized educational programs which are based on the best practices framework for students with significant learning and/or behaviour challenges. This position is also responsible for designing and implementing professional development opportunities for teachers, educational assistants and/or parents at the District and school level. The successful applicant must demonstrate an understanding of tiered support, universal design for learning and differentiated instructional models of support, and support an inclusive model of support for students with exceptional needs.
The successful applicant will:
• be an experienced resource teacher
• have demonstrated ability to design IEPs and support the implementation of strategies and interventions described in the student’s IEP
• have proven competencies in instructional approaches such as co-teaching, modeling and planning for instruction
• be expected to work collaboratively with classroom teachers, resource teachers, educational assistants and district staff
• be responsible for designing and implementing professional development opportunities for teachers, educational assistants and/or parents at the District and school level
This position is intended to be an integral part of the District Support Team (DST) and may, therefore, be involved in a wide variety of initiatives aligned or connected to the work of others in the department. These initiatives align with the Continuum of Learning Services and therefore there is the expectation that the applicant will have expertise in providing effective instruction for all learners along the continuum. Other duties and responsibilities may also be assigned as necessary in response to the changing needs of the District.
The Teacher Consultant will have a passion for life-long learning and be capable of working both independently and in a collaborative team environment. Thus, the successful applicant will have demonstrated competencies in collaboration, facilitation and in leading staff development initiatives. This position requires ongoing communication and the development of relationships within the school district as well as with outside organizations to implement projects and therefore requires flexibility in working hours with meetings occurring out of school time.
The successful applicant will be a fully qualified and experienced learning resource teacher with demonstrated competencies in addressing a wide range of student needs and must be able to:
• demonstrate the skills of planning, developing, implementing and evaluating appropriate and effective individualized educational programs which are based on the best practices framework for students with significant learning and/or behaviour challenges
• preference will be given to candidates who are also qualified ELL teachers
• demonstrate competence in establishing effective school based teams and in coordinating the work of educational assistants and other relevant personnel and community partners
• demonstrate competence in developing IEPs, Functional Behavior Assessments, Positive Behavior Support Plans and Employee Safety Plans
• demonstrate competencies in facilitating effective schedules, case management and the understanding of assessment for learning practises that support all learners across the Continuum of Learning Services
• demonstrate exceptional organization, time management, communication, and prioritizing skills
