Lesson Objectives /
  • The students will understand how to conjugate passé composé (past tense).
  • The students will understand how to conjugate the imparfait (past continuous).
  • The students will know when to use the passé compose to express past, completed actions.
  • The students will know when to use the imparfait to express background actions, and what people were doing, and the ways things were/used to be.
  • The students will choose between the 2 tenses to effectively recount the past.
  • Students will create a story recounting a past event using the passé compose and the imparfait together.
  • The students will be able to know and use effectively transition words and time words to enhance their writing and to help them make grammar choices.

Materials /
  • Computers, Google Classroom , Google Drive, Google Docs

Procedures /
  1. *** this lesson takes place towards the end of a unit on the past tense. Student have already received direct instruction in forming and using the passe compose and imparfait tenses.
  2. Introduction to collaborative writing. Teachers shows the instructional video on writing creatively using google docs.
  3. Demo on creative writing. Teacher shares a document with the class with the question, “What can I do to work well in a group?” Students brainstorm best practices of group work while seeing how Google Docs edits their thoughts in real time.
  4. Groups are chosen for creative writing assignment.
  5. Students work collaboratively on their creative stories in class and at home.

Assessment & Evaluation / Students submit their stories via Google Classroom. Stories are graded per the rubric on the assignment outline.
