BUP Teachers Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)
23-26 October 2016 in Rogów, Poland
“Engaging higher education in local and global challenges”
PROGRAMME
Dear colleagues,
We are happy to announce the BUPTeachers Conference on Education for Sustainable Development that will be organised 23-26 October 2016 in Rogów, Poland. Participants from all countries in the BUP network representing different universities and different disciplines are welcome.
The conference will deal with the imperative challenges regarding education for sustainability in higher education: transforming information from knowledge to learning, enhancing competences for actions "in real life”, problem based, active learning environments, and interdisciplinary approaches. These forms of ESD training conferences have been arranged by the Finnish and Polish BUP-centressince2004 and will this year be held in cooperation with SWEDESD(Swedish International Centre of Education for Sustainable Development;)being the Key Partner with UNESCO on the Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development.
The topics will be concentrated around the implications on climate change and on a general course content and learning methods in university education for the future we want. Climate change will evidently have consequences on all societal sectors, all over the world and therefore needs to be dealt with from multidimensional perspectives, supporting local and global solutions. The mitigation and adaptation will demand a broad set of actions: ranging from biodiversity and habitat protection to transforming of energy support systems, water and food support systems, production and consumption patterns, urban and rural planning to healthcare and security etc.
The participants are expected contribute actively both in the workshops and with own presentations. Instructions for the oral presentations or posters will be sent later. After acceptance to the conference the participants will be asked to send the titles of their presentations/posters.

Applications are to be sent to the BUP National Centres of their respective countryThe deadline for applications from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine is the 30th of August and 30th of September 2016 for all others. Send also a copy of your application
The organizers will cover the expenses for the participating teachers during the conference – accommodation, full board and transportation from Warsaw to Rogów and back included.Travel costs to and from Warsaw will be the responsibility of the participants and their universities.There is however a possibility for representatives from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine to cover the travel costs partially.For more information please contact SinikkaSuomalainen ()
