The Stage 3 STEM Project will support an integrated approach to teaching and learning around Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Stage 3. The initiative will involve utilising the pedagogies in the mathematics and science and technology syllabuses to develop learning experiences through the use of project-based and inquiry-based learning strategies.
A grant will be provided to successful schools to implement their STEM program. The Department will fund the attendance (including travel and accommodation for non-metropolitan schools) of school teams at the initial two-day conference. Schools are invited to send up to three Stage 3 teachers and 1 executive teacher to attend the conference in Sydney. Schools can utilise the grant to cover teacher release for conference attendance. The remaining grant funds can be used by schools at their discretion to support the writing and trialling of a quality integrated project-based STEM program. School programs will be published by the Early Learning and Primary Education Unit as examples of innovative STEM learning and teaching.
The Stage 3 STEM Project will provide schools with the opportunity to evaluate teaching and learning practices in primary education. The desired impact is improved student learning through pedagogical change. The project will require a commitment from the school to facilitate collaborative, integrated teaching and creative implementation strategies.
