1. The Madras College Pipe Band – 26 traditional Scottish pipers of all ages opening the event with a ceremonial march into the Quadrangle through the historic archway from North Street.
2. Highland Dancers – Dancers from the Roblyn School of Dance from Kirkcaldy performing traditional highland dances with accompaniment from Roddy (Madras College Pipe Band)
3. A Cappella – A mixture of performances from St Andrews four voice only groups, performing a range of cover songs and parodies.
- The Accidentals – All female student vocal group who recently won Best Female Group at the Voice Festival UK.
- Hummingbirds – Another all female student group performing known for their strong harmonising and energetic performances
- The Other Guys – All male YouTube sensation with over 200,000 views of their tribute to the wedding of “Wills & Kate” – a parody of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, entitled “Royal Romance”, which received widespread media attention.
- Alleycats – The only mixed gender vocal only group in St Andrews, and also the oldest. The Alleycats are regular performers at student events and made it through to the final 15 of the BBC’s “Last Choir Standing”.
4. Dry Island Buffalo Jump – Band made up of University lecturers from a variety of departments. Have been playing together for a number of years at events with their fee being a donation to a student scholarship fund they set up. They are well known in St Andrews for writing a song about the difficulties of the recession.
5. Rock Highland – Performers from the Nicola Grant School of Dance, Kirriemuir, showcasing a modern contemporary form of highland dancing. Some of these dancers are Champion Highland Dancers.
6. Blue Angels – one wing of the University of St Andrews Dance Society. The Blue Angels are an elite team regularly performing and competing across the UK
7. Royal Scottish Country Dance Society – Traditional Scottish Country Dancing. The RSCDS have choreographed a dance specifically in honour of the Royal Couple’s wedding. The dance is a ‘strathspey’ entitled “Romance in St Andrews”.
8. Dazzle Youth – Dazzle is a Youth Musical Theatre group for 8-21 year-olds working out of the Cosmos community centre in St Andrews. They will be performing a piece from ‘Billy Elliot’ as well as a medley of songs from ‘The Wizard of Oz’ – look out for the twist!
9. Amy Rayner – Local teenage singer-songwriter, Amy, was a finalist in Fife’s Got Talent last year. She will be performing an acoustic cover song.
10. Byre Rhythm – Traditional Taiko Drummers (‘Taiko’ means ‘drum’ in Japanese). The group is made up of talented older female residents of the St Andrews area. Be warned, these performers are loud!
11. Katherine Skene – Secondary School pupil, who is a trained classical singer, performing ‘Love Never Dies’ from the hit new musical of the same name. An appropriate song to sing, given the occasion!
12. Madras Community Dance – Part of the Community Arts Facility based at the Kilrymont campus of Madras College. Anyone can take part in this scheme and todays performance of choreographed dances to ‘Smooth Criminal’ & ‘Billie Jean’ by Michael Jackson, comprises of performers from all over the St Andrews area.
13. Canongate Primary Glee Club – After-school club based at a local primary school performing a song in the style of TV’s ‘Glee’. Represented are children aged 9-12.
14. Chinafan Mandarin Language Centre Chinese Ethnic Dance – A performance of Chinese dancing courtesy of local Mandarin Language teacher, Lily Jackson. There is a large Chinese community in St Andrews and their recent New Year Gala celebrations in the Students' Association was attended by the Chinese Education Ambassador and had an audience of over 350 people.
15. Madras Community Dance – Second performance from the Madras Community Dance group – this time a different genre is showcased to “I Can’t Stop Loving You”
16. Haydays Singers – The Byre Theatre’s Education & Arts Organisation perform ‘You Raise Me Up’ and ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. The group meet weekly at the Byre Theatre as an arts and crafts set-up for the over 50s.
17. Ethnic & Interpretive Dance – The Ethnic & Interpretive Dance society is a student group who perform a wide range of exotic dance styles, specialising in belly dancing.
18. St Andrews Gilbert & Sullivan Society – One of the most active student societies in St Andrews. The society puts on one main show and a number of concerts each year in St Andrews, as well as performing at Gilbert & Sullivan festivals around the UK and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Their most recent production of ‘The Yeomen of the Guard’ attracted not only a large local audience, but also media attention as show coincided with the recent visit of the Royal Couple to St Andrew and some of the cast dressed in costume appeared in national press meeting HRH Prince William of Wales.
19. St Leonard’s Newpark Primary School Choir – Local private primary school choir performing Purcell’s patriotic love song ‘Fairest Isle’ with an ensemble of 120 children.
20. Closing Speeches – A short speech of thanks and a reminder of the charity collections taking place at the event.
21. My Fair Lady – The cast of a student society production of ‘My Fair Lady’, which goes up Saturday/Sunday/Monday in the Students' Association. Aptly, they are to perform ‘Get Me to the Church On Time’ as Miss Middleton should be making her way to Westminster Abbey.
22. National Youth Brass Band of Scotland – The NYBBS were founded in 1958 and are a branch of the Scottish Amateur Music Association. The membership is around 150 of the best young (under 21 years old) brass musicians in Scotland and all members are auditioned first. The group gathers every summer in St Andrews for their annual performances, so this performance today is extra specially arranged. Top Brass!
