The Southern Timber Co.

*** October 2017 Edition ***

At the end of September we made the move into our new office. There is still more work to do but we’re confident the benefit of the initial phase will be felt immediately. Our phone lines were down intermittently during the change over but everything is now back to normal. However, you will no longer be able to contact us on the Plymouth number of 01752 600066. Please call the Sales Office on 01803 813803 with all enquires. We hope that this move hasn’t been too disruptive and thank you for your patience whilst these works have been carried out. Why not pop in and see our new shop and wide range of fixings next time you’re passing!

Our Wessex Multiply Oak, Rustic Grade, is well stocked in both UV Oiled and Unfinished. The board boasts a 6mm wear layer and a 100% Birch plywood core, making it suitable for use in conjunction with most underfloor heating systems. It is also available in a variety of widths (120-240mm) and finishes on a special order basis. Prices from £41.75 + vat per m2. Please enquire with the Sales Office for more information.

Unfortunately the issue surrounding the supply and price of Celotex and all rigid insulation brands looks set to continue for the foreseeable future. Prices have risen by a further 17.5% as of last month with future increases anticipated in the New Year. The main problem surrounds the supply of the glue used to make products, including Rigid Insulation, MDF, chipboard & OSB, being affected by the factory fire we reported last year. We’ll continue to source all the available Celotex that we can but accurate lead times on all sheet sizes is proving problematic as manufacturers continue to struggle with the short supply of raw material outlined above. As always we will endeavour to keep you updated.

We have held a Macmillan Coffee Morning for the previous 6 years and this year we raised in excess of £250. Thanks to everyone who joined us for coffee and cake and contributed to this fundraising event for people facing cancer.

Two teams from Southern Timber completed this years Totnes Raft Race, known as The River Dart Struggle, on Sunday the 1st of October to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. The two teams set off from Dart Bridge, Buckfastleigh, and through a mixture of white water and fast flowing weirs, made there way down the River Dart to the finish in Totnes, a distance of 13 Kilometres. The girls team ‘The Timberettes‘ finished in a time of 2 hours 39 minutes, the boys team ‘The Southern Timberwolves’ took 3 hours 17 minutes to complete the race. Well done to the girls! Thanks to all those who sponsored us and donated towards our fund for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. So far we have raised £1635.00 for this charity, with more to come in, which is fantastic!
