The Soundtrack of Your Life Project

I can analyze the connection between my personal beliefs and external influences, such as music, on my personal health.

Music has become an integral part of human existence.

It motivates us, calms us, inspires us, at times irritates us, and basically becomes the backdrop against which we live our lives.

Songs can bring vivid memories of persons, places, and events from our own past and serve to document our thoughts, feelings, and emotions at a given time or place.

Sometimes it is really difficult to express your thoughts and feelings, but music can help us out. Have you ever listened to a song and said to yourself, “that is exactly how I feel right now.” Lyrics can be a big reminder that you’re not alone.

For example, hearing lyrics you relate to can help you realize how powerful it is to have someone out there that understands how you feel so much that they put your feelings into words for you–without even knowing you.

Use the outline below to help you construct this album. The questions listed are only there to help you begin thinking about the topic. Remember, in reflective writing longer is usually better!

Step 1—Explanation of yourself (One paragraph)

Should be already done in the back of your INB – Just type it up

This paragraph is basically an autobiography and WHAT DEFINES you…

  • Who are you?
  • Where are you from?Where are you now?
  • What do you like to do?
  • What is important to you?

Step 2—Explanation of this soundtrack (One paragraph)

This paragraph outlines your reasoning or purpose in creating this soundtrack:use justification

  • What do you believe is the purpose for creating this soundtrack?
  • What do you hope or can hope to get out of this project, within yourself?
  • a good grade is not an answer
  • What could you do with this later in life?
  • What goals do you have for creating it?
  • to finish it, is not an answer

Step 3 – Type up the name and artist of your 3 songs in BIGGER FONT…this will have its own page

Example:

Me and My Gang Rascal Flatts

ReflectionsLea Salonga

Let it GoIdinaMenzel

Step 4—Explanation of each song on the soundtrack (One paragraph per song)

Now that you have selected your soundtrack to your life. For each song you will need to reflect on the experiences, persons, places, etc. that inspired this song choice.

This section is made up of one paragraph per song that explains/incorporates:

  • Use the lyrics in your paragraph (highlight them)
  • Identify the name of the song and artist
  • Explain with details the importance to each song is to you
  • Explain how each song connects to your life
  • What does each song reveal about the kind of person you are and what you think is important in your life?

Example:

Track 3: “Missing” by Luke Bryan

The last song of my Soundtrack isextremely personal and reachesdeep in my heart. “Missing” by Luke Bryan articulates losing someone close to you and not quite understanding why. “Funny how the good ones go too soon”, always sticks out in my life because both my parents have passed away and even though at times we argued, at the end of their lives they were the people I idolized the most. Everyone I know loves and adores my parents and they have made me the independent woman I am today. “Sometimes the greater plan is kinda hard to understand, right now it doesn’t make sense, I can’t make it all make sense.” I believe deep down in my heart that everything happens for a reason, though I may not understand why, someday I will. Through these events in my life, I have become a stronger and more compassionate person to others which helps me relate to my friends and family. I have learned to use my experiences to see the brighter side of life and “sit right here on the edge of this pier watch the sunset disappear”.

Step 5—Final remarks and reflection on the soundtrack as a whole (One paragraph)

This paragraph is your conclusion in which you should have final reflections upon this project as a whole. Justify your understanding of the project and your reflection on the project as a whole as it relates to you.
