Has anyone ever met a giant? Sometimes giants are a bit scary but the giant we are meeting today is a very, very nice giant. BUT he is a very scruffy giant and wears really old clothes that are falling apart.
What do giants say? ... Fe Fi Foe Fum (Giant cross climbing, and say words).
He lives in a lovely town which is full of lots of houses. Let’s make a town and each of you can be a different House or shop! (Walk around kids and pretend to pressthe bell on their knees. Perhaps pretend each kids legs are a different place e.g. bakers, fish shop, giant’s house etc)
Now he decides that he needs to buy some new clothes so he goes into the clothes shop. I will be the shop and you can come through my legs into it. (Children one byone come through your legs).
He buys a shirt(stretch arms out to the side)and a pair of trousers (improvise by rollingback on your back and stretching each leg individually), a belt, a tie , some socks (Putsocks to nose as though feet smell/like telephone) and a pair of shiny shoes. He loves his new shoes and he bends forward to have a good look at them. (Standing forward and bend.)
(Ask a child in turn to lay an item of the clothing on the floor so that in the end you have what resembles a flat giant lying on the floor. Have prepared an A4 piece of paper with a face drawn on as his head.)
He was just on his way home when he met a Giraffewho was crying because he had a very cold neck! He said he wanted a scarf to keep it warm. So the giant gave him his scarf to wrap round his neck. (Spin slowly in a circle as though wrapping the scarf.Ask the child to take the tie off the floor.)
Next he met a Goat(Dog with alternate leg kicks). The Goat had a Boat. But the sail which makes the boat move had blown away in a storm so he could not use the Boat anymore. So the giant gave the goat his shirt and said ‘Don’t worry, it kept coming un tucked anyway!’
(Ask a child to take the shirt off the floor giant.)
The giant walks on(giant cross climbing)and FE FI FO FUM (get children to follow youacross the room, if you have the space and the children will keep with you and not run riot).
Who do you think he meets next? (Get kids to guess a few animals). ..
He meets a family of mice! They are all squeaking very loudly. (Mouse -and a variety of squeaks for daddy, mummy and baby Mouse.) The giant asks them what is wrong and they say that their House burnt down. So the giant who is very, very kind gives them his shoe to make a house in.
Next he meets a fox who really likes going camping.
(Ask the children if they have ever been camping and slept in a Tent.)
Camping is great fun because you get to zip and unzip the Tent ! The fox is most upset because his sleeping bag is wet. So what do you think the giant gives the fox to use as a sleeping bag?
Yes, his sock! (Get child to take sock away).
The last person he met was a Dogwho was stuck in a bog! The poor old dog has got to wade through the bog Mud Walking and lots of squelchy sounds.
Now the Dog needed something he could use to make a path across the bog. So what do you think he gave the Dog?
Yes, his belt!
(Get child to take belt off the floor giant.)
So now the Giant has got hardly any clothes on and the weather suddenly got much colder. The wind blew (Wind Breathing- cross legs and cupped hands in frontof you).
He got colder and colder (massage arms and legs) and his trousers kept falling down. (forward bendto pull them up again). So he decided to go back to the shop (Hopping as he only has one shoe).
He got to the shop (house)but it was closed! He felt so sad, but he saw a bag full of his old scruffy clothes. So he put them back on and they felt lovely. He gives himself a lovely HUG and says ‘I’m The cosiest Giant in town’.
Relaxation and Visualisation: 5mins
The giant has been so kind to give all his clothes away to his animal friends. But he has walked a very long way meeting them all so he needs to have a lovely lie down all snug and cosy in his lovely old but comfortable clothes.
Play some quiet relaxing music.
Games and Activities:
Get them all to draw a face on the A4 paper to be ‘the head’ of the floor giant and one by one they can put the clothes back in the right place and make the giant again.
