JOOS AND THE SECOND STEP PARTNER FOR SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

AND REJUVENATE CUSTOMERS

Newton, Mass. (October 1, 2013) – Two local organizations, JOOS® and The Second Step, are uniting to provide a healthier lifestyle for customers and, at the same time, improving the emotional and physical well-being for survivors of domestic violence through the launch of Rejuvenate, a new juice product. Rejuvenate was specially created for The Second Step and is a 100% organic, non-pasteurized combination of cranberry, apple, lemon, aloe, and bok choy. For each bottle sold, $1 will be donated to The Second Step in support of the agency’s long-term, transformational services for adult and child survivors of domestic violence.

Available this week the product launch capitalizes on October being National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The partnership with JOOS is among the first of several philanthropic partnerships between local businesses and The Second Step creating a win-win opportunity that boosts sales and builds awareness of the need for support for survivors of domestic violence.

“The natural synergy between our two organizations is an ideal partnership,” said Sarah Perry, executive director of The Second Step. “Together we are committed to promoting healthier lifestyles—whether it is drinking fresh, organic juice or taking steps to leave an abusive relationship and build a better life.”

Founded in 1992, The Second Step provides comprehensive services for survivors of domestic violence who live in Newton through the agency’s Community Program and also provides transitional housing for up to sixteen families at a time through its Residential Program.

JOOS was founded by Newton resident, Lauri Meizler, a former food and beverage analyst on Wall Street and who for more than 20 years has studied nutrition, juicing, and cleansing.

“Our goal is to create the healthiest products possible while continuing to introduce new tastes and flavors – all designed to optimize our customers’ well-being,” said Meizler, founder and CEO of JOOS. “As a single mother of four, I know firsthand the importance of making healthy choices for my family, and I am passionate about helping more women do the same for their families.”

The Second Step also is partnering with other Newton based companies Rox Diner, Strung Over Well Within, and Yogurtland this month.
