Boundary Workshop

February 9, 2005

The School Board of Palm Beach County, Florida, met in the Winona Webb Jordan Board Chambers, 3300 Forest Hill Boulevard, West Palm Beach, Florida, on February 9, 2005, at 5:00 p.m. Board Members present were Chairman Tom Lynch, Vice Chairman William Graham, Monroe Benaim, Paulette Burdick, Sandra Richmond and Debra Robinson. Board Member Mark Hansen was unable to attend. Also present were Superintendent Art Johnson, Chief Counsel to the Board JulieAnn Rico-Allison, Chief Academic Officer Ann Killets, Chief Operating Officer Joe Moore and Chief Officer of Administration Gerald Williams.

Public Comments: Susan Jacobson; Penny Riccio; Carrie Frazer; and Edward Levick

Mr. Lynch led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Public Comments: Al Williams; Cyndi Greenstein; Clair Hart; John Holland; Lori Mealy; and Greta Britt.

Dr. Johnson announced this workshop is to discuss the Attendance Boundary Committee (ABC) recommendations and allow for feedback from Board Members.

Judy Brennan, Manager of School Boundaries and Demographics, summarized the recommendation for review of attendance boundaries for Royal Palm Beach Elementary School.

Board Members discussed: transportation costs; distance and time students will spend on buses; and elementary neighborhood schools.

Mrs. Burdick requested an update on elementary school 032 and Dr. Robinson asked if this project could be completed earlier than 2008. Mr. Moore responded that there is no flexability on this project.

Ms. Brennan summarized the recommendation for review of attendance boundaries for Seminole Ridge High School.

For the Record: Mrs. Burdick stated that this is her 2nd request for criteria on how the District establishes career academy and choice seats.

For the Record: Dr. Richmond left at 6:10 p.m.

Board Members discussed the ABC and Superintendent’s recommendation and asked that Dr. Johnson bring back another recommendation.

Ms. Brennan summarized the recommendation for review of attendance boundaries for Greenacres Area Middle School 03-KK.

Ms. Brennan summarized the recommendation for review of attendance boundaries for Atlantic High School.
