PositionDescription
SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Creation & implementation of a spiritual-focused Day Camp program in conjunction with the Divisional Youth Secretary (DYS).
  • Take primary responsibility for the supervision of the Program Team, which includes but is not limited to, the delegation of program responsibilities and evaluating the performance of team members.
  • Responsible to complete paperwork in a timely manner (i.e. timesheets, visa statements, incident reports, etc.)
  • Responsible to ensure the successful outcome of the Camp at Home program
  • Responsible to liaise with the local Corps
  • Administration duties, which includes but is not limited to, overseeing and monitoring the approved budget and submitting receipts/invoices on a weekly basis to the DYS for reimbursement/payment.
  • Ensure the safety of the team as they travel from location to location.
  • Communicate with local Ministry Unit leadership and parents throughout the Day Camp.
  • Report on a weekly basis to the DYS.
  • Create a report at the end of the summer outlining the 2017 CAH Ministry for the Division.
  • Provide oversight to a small group of campers.
  • Perform other position related duties as required.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
  • Maintain information in confidence as required
  • Participate as an active and responsible team member in all work groups through which position responsibilities are achieved
  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner and assist personnel whom the position supports in developing those skills as required
  • Avoid unaccompanied or unobserved activities with youth.
  • Participate in performance appraisal process.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Recognize and respond to opportunities for group problem-solving.
  • Participate in mandatory training and camp prep as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Some post-secondary education required.
  • Some previous experience in a camp setting and working with children would be a definite asset.
  • Minimum of one year of previous experience as a Camp at Home team member
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and an original copy of a current Driver’s Abstract are required.
  • You will be required to drive a large 8 passenger SUV and / or a 7-passenger mini-van, which at times will be towing an 8-foot trailer.
  • You will be required to participate in a professional driving assessment. If needed, employer sponsored training will be provided.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Ability to teach and lead various activities.
  • Excellent character, integrity, and adaptability.
  • The desire to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Provide an original copy of a Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • Screening through The Salvation Army’s Internal Abuse Registry.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a variety of ages and skill levels.
  • Previous experience working with children.
  • Previous experience in team leadership.
HOURS: 40 hours per week, evening and weekend work will be required
