The Rotary Club of Peterborough

Incorporated

March 21st, 2007

Dear Potential Partner:

On Behalf of the Rotary Club of Peterborough, we would like to invite you to participate with us in a unique Canada Day Celebration: the “Isadore Black – Canada Day Challenge”.

In the past several years, the Rotary Club of Peterborough has organized an essay writing challenge for young Canadians between 10 and 14 years of age (Grades 4 to 8). The essay must be between 100 and 250 words in length (less than one page), and should answer the question “What does it mean to me, to be a Canadian?” Promotional flyers are available for distribution upon request.

We are pleased to say that the Black Family of Peterborough is going to sponsor this event again this year, with the generous donation of ALL participation rewards in honour of the late Isadore Black, the event creator and honoured Rotarian. Each participant’s name will be entered into a draw for four separate grand rewards: Two New Bicycles and Two iPod MP3 Players. We feel that these items hold value/interest for the youth and support our belief that concrete mementos (rather than cash) serve as a greater remembrance of the event for the youth participants. By awarding these items by draw, all of the young authors will have an equal opportunity and incentive to participate. ALL authors will receive a reward just for participating!

In addition, the lucky grand winners and their families will join the Rotary Club of Peterborough on Monday June 25th, 2007, for a complimentary buffet lunch at the Holiday Inn, where they will have an opportunity to recite their essays. After lunch, the bicycles and iPods will be officially awarded. The award recipients and their essays, as well as a list of participants may also be featured on the Rotary website (www.Clubrunner.ca) and/or showcased in the Peterborough Examiner.

The Rotary Club of Peterborough feels that this is an excellent chance for young adults to exercise writing skills, explore their own commitment to and admiration for Canada, and perhaps earn a citizenship badge/recognition in the process. For additional inquiries, and to confirm your interest in this event, please contact me weekdays at my place of employment, 652-6118. We look forward to a mutually beneficial partnership.

Sincerely,

Sally Harding,

Chair, Rotary Canada Day Celebrations Committee
