The research work programme
Doctoral student: (First and last name)
Academic year: (20 /20 )
Year of study: (1or2)
Title of research work topic: (topic title, up to 70 characters)
Short description of the field of research work
(One paragraph, up to 150 words. The candidate describes the fieldof the research work, what has already been achieved in this fieldand what the candidate intends to improve or newly develop.)
Expected results and timeline
(The student indicates the expected results of the research work and shows them in the timeline. Typically, students should indicate three to five expected results; at least one of them should be carried out in the first semester.Example:
1 Dec 2010Review of the field of visualisation and analysis of social networks, in particular of the research work conducted by Birkgenhagen et al. (Science 233, 2009). I focus on methods that can be used for the analysis of very large networks with some 10,000 or 10,000 nodes. I prepare an overview of the main works and sources in the form of a brief technical report and submit it to my supervisor.
1 Feb 2011I develop the method for analysing the dynamics of topological changes of large networks, with the focus on the visualisation of changes in structural properties. I prepare a brief description of the method in the form of a short report and submit it to the mentor.
1 May 2011I implement the above proposed method in the prototypein Python or Qt environment programming language. I compare it to MagicNet tools in a set of test cases. I also compare both tools with the analysis of Facebook and the data I have been collecting since 1 October 2010. I collect the results in a short report and give it to my supervisor.
20 Aug 2011I further improve the proposed visualisation method and its prototype. For this purpose I customise the Kuchi-Monkov algorithm to study flows in networks and create my own set of solutions for this particular problem. I report on my research work carried out during the academic year in a brief, five-page report and submit it to my supervisor.).
