Job Description

Post Title:Duty Manager

Salary:£17,795 pa (37 hours per week)

Grade:Range 2 ISN 11

Reporting to:Sports Facilities Manager

Responsible for:Recreations Assistants, Receptionists and Fitness Instructors

The Duty Managers play a crucial part in the day to day operations of the Sports Centre and form part of the Centres Management Team, which is collectively responsible for the effective delivery of a range of services throughout the facilities. The Duty Management Team work within a shift pattern which includes working evenings and weekends.

Main responsibilities:

  1. Provide effective leadership and management of Recreation Assistants and Receptionists as well as supervising the Fitness Instructors in the absence of the Fitness Duty Manager.
  1. To deputise for the Sports Facilities Manager in his/her absence.
  1. To assist in the development of the relationship between the Sports Centre and the School PE Department.
  1. To be responsible for the Health and Safety of all staff and visitors and to be the main first aider while on duty.
  1. To supervise or undertake equipment set up and take downs according to the programme of activities. (This will involve lifting or moving of medium weight equipment)
  1. To provide inductions and training to new staff as well as refresher training to existing staff members.
  1. To be responsible for the security of the building and equipment and to act as key holder.
  1. To ensure compliance with all financial procedures as well as being responsible for the reconciliation and banking of income.
  1. To monitor stock control measures and replenish stock levels through liaison with suppliers.
  1. Adhere to all procedures and guidelines listed within the Sports centre Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and Normal Operating Procedures (NOP)
  1. Assist in the development of the Sports Centre programme and range of services in order to enhance the customer experience.
  1. Ensure that the highest standard of customer service is delivered at all times.
  1. Effectively deal with customer complaints and queries and aim to reduce or eliminate escalation of complaints.
  1. To undertake regular checks on all facilities and equipment as well as housekeeping standards and take prompt action where remedial action is required.
  1. To undertake periodic internal audits of systems to ensure full compliance with Sports Centre policies and legislation as well as best practice.
  1. To conduct a programme of performance management and appraisal for staff.
  1. To manage disciplinary or grievance procedures should they arise for all staff.
  1. Liaison with internal contacts and external contractors in accordance with maintenance procedures and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes.

Duty Managers are expected to work a range of shifts within a set rota pattern that will include evenings and weekends as well as work on Bank Holidays. They also have a responsibility to undertake regular training and development exercises as a commitment to their own professional development as well as the development of the Sports Centre.

As with all categories of staff, Duty Managers will act as Ambassadors for both the Sir Steve Redgrave Sports Centre and the Great Marlow School.

This list is not an exhaustive list of duties but acts as a guide to the main objectives and responsibilities of the role holder. As well as this, the role holder will be expected to undertake additional duties as directed by their line manager or Senior Management of Great Marlow School which are commensurate with the post and grade.
