The prophetic significance of Fire on the Mountain
When fire fell on Mount Carmel back in the days of Elijah the prophet, it was a sign that the God of Israel was the true God. In those days the children of Israel had returned to idol worship and mixed paganism with the true worship of the God of Israel. God sent Elijah the prophet to Mount Carmel in the book of 1 Kings Chapter 18. According to God’s word, Elijah repaired the alter of the Lord that had been torn down. He then called on the name of God and God answered with fire, fire that consumed the sacrifice. The children of Israel were so amazed by the miracle of the fire that fell from heaven that their hearts were turned back to God.
In the book of Malachi, Chapter 4:5-6 the prophet wrote: 5"Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD. 6"He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse." Today God’s people worship Him with many different traditions, not all of which come from the Bible. Perhaps the fire on Mount Carmel is a sign that God is getting ready to send us Elijah who will unite us as Christians & Messianic Jews just as Elijah of old united the people of Israel. John the Baptist was an Elijah, but did not accomplish this because he was not received. In Matthew 17:9, Yeshua the Messiah told us that “Elijah is coming and will restore all things.” In John 17 Yeshua prayed that we would be one, but we are not one. Therefore, one could look at the fire on Mount Carmel as a sign that Elijah the prophet is coming again to restore the “hearts of the fathers to the children and the hearts of the children to the fathers.”
