THE PRESERVE JUNIOR TENNIS LESSONS

SUMMER 2018

PROGRAM OVERVEW

  • Lessons for ages 3 & up taught by USPTA certified instructors
  • Scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. twice a week throughout the summer
  • All lessons on Mondays and Wednesdaysexcept for the first week (Memorial Day) and July 4th week. Classes will run on Fridays those weeks to accommodate the holidays.
  • Children grouped by age and ability
  • Sign up for Session 1 (6 weeks) and/or Session 2 (4 weeks)
  • Daily drop-in available, space permitting; $20 for 1 hour class, $10 for 30 mins
  • Student/teacher ratio capped at 6:1 for all groups
  • Program open to Preserve residents and non-residents; non-residents subject to $25 facility usage fee (residents have priority in filling positions)
  • Preserve residents sign up by 5/1/18; Non-residents, space permitting: 5/15/18

  • Students that miss classes will be permitted to drop in up to 2 times to classes offered in the second session. There will be one week of make up classes offered following the second session for those enrolled only in session 2. Make up classes will also be offered for any weather interruptions or instructor conflicts

*Sign Up Genius links are only available for classes in the first session. If you only plan to enroll in the second session, please mail the registration form and look for a later message with a link to sign up.

Registration is first come, first served so sign up early. Additional afternoon classes may be offered pending registration volumes.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

ABC’s - (Agility, Balance & Coordination; 3 – 6 yrs olds) -This is the perfect start to prepare your child for our 10 and under programs. In this class, children learn through play, having fun and developing active habits. The foundation for future game play is set by learning to control objects in a given space with their body and racquet. Students work on sending/receiving balls, coordination and balance, and racquet control. Movement skills, including running, shuffling and jumping are also taught. The class is 30 minutes long, and children should have their own 19 or 21 inch racquet. The class will be capped at a 6:1 student to instructor ratio.

Red Ball -This is our first stage class for children 7 years old and younger just starting out in tennis. This class uses larger, softer balls and a 30 ft. court. The children learn the basics of tennis including stroke production, footwork and cooperative play through games and drills designed to promote early success. Students will be grouped within the class by age and ability level. Students should have a 21 to 23 inch racquet. The class will be capped at a 6:1 student to instructor ratio.

Orange Ball - This is our first stage class for 7-10 year olds just starting out in 10 and Under Tennis. This class uses softer balls and a 60 ft. court. Children learn the basics of tennis including stroke production, footwork and cooperative play through games and drills designed to promote early success. The class introduces students to all parts of the game, and is designed to prepare them to begin to play assisted matches at the next level. Students will be grouped by ability level within this class. More advanced students will concentrate on cooperative game/match play. Students should have a 23 to 25 inch racquet. The class will be capped at a 6:1 student to instructor ratio.

Green Ball - Green ball junior drills are our development class for 11-12 year olds and advanced 10 y/o players not participating in the Junior Team Tennis program. This class uses green dot, lower compression, balls and a full sized court. Instruction focuses on enhancing the player’s tennis foundation as well as introducing supervised match play. Skills developed include proper stroke mechanics and basic footwork patterns. Students will also learn serve, volley, and directional control, as well as the ability to rally a point. Students should have a 25 to 26 inch racquet. The class is capped at a 6:1 student to instructor ratio.

Teen Tennis Drills - Teen Tennis Drills are our development class for players that are 13 years and older. This class usesregular compression, yellowballsand a full sized court. Instruction focuses on enhancing the player’s tennis foundation, as well as introducing supervised match play. Skills developed include proper stroke mechanics and basic footwork patterns. Students also learn serve, volley, and directional control, as well as the ability to rally a point. Students should have an adult racquet,27 to 29 inches. The class is capped at a 6:1 student to instructor ratio.
