Job Title:Giving Officer

Job Summary:To help to grow a culture of generosity and to increase the financial resources available for mission in Parishes and at Diocesan level

Accountable to:The Diocesan Stewardship Officer

Hours:37½hours per week (full time)

Salary Offer:£30,000 per annum

The successful candidate will be expected to work during evenings and some weekends (including some Sundays) but would be encouraged to take time off in lieu.

The nature and context of the post means that it is an Occupational Requirement for the post holder to be a practising Christian.

The post holder will be required to travel across the Diocese, so a current driving licence and access to own transport is a necessity.

Roles and Responsibilities

of the Giving Officer

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

1. To undertake a full evaluation of the National Parish Giving Scheme and advise what the advantages might be to the Diocese.

2. Working with the Stewardship Officer to promote generous Christian giving of time, talents and money, working in partnership with and supported by other Diocesan Officers.

3. Teaching, preaching and speaking on Christian giving and generosity in Parishes and Deaneries; both in worship and other gatherings.

4. Encouraging and nurturing Christian giving in the context of discipleship by enthusing people and parishes in the theology and practice of giving:

▪Having a passion for helping people grow in their personal discipleship and understanding giving as a part of that discipleship journey;

▪Have an understanding of the theology and biblical principles of Christian giving and generosity;

▪Be able to source, design, facilitate and/or deliver training events for Treasurersand others, on all aspects of stewardship;

▪Promoting, encouraging and growing legacy giving;

▪In conjunction with the Stewardship Officer and other Diocesan staff, communicating the Diocese’s financial priorities to parishes through a variety of means including printed resources and Parish meetings

5. Running Stewardship Campaigns in parishes and/or deaneries; monitoring their effectiveness and offering on-going support following each campaign.

6. Helping Parishes to understand the link between Giving and Mission and Ministry, and helping them to think through what that would look like for each individual Parish.

7. To liaise with The Stewardship Officer, The Diocesan Secretary and The Archdeacons in prioritising support for particular PCC’s.

8. Creating and maintaining effective relationships outside the Diocese:

▪Representing the Diocese at regional and national conferences on Christian

stewardship and related subjects

Person Specification:

Essential

▪An understanding of the theology which underpins Christian principles of giving

▪Confident in public speaking and/or preaching

▪Creative in his/her work; able to exercise initiative and self-motivating

▪Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral

▪Skilled in motivating people and a committed and enthusiastic team player

▪Experience of working within a voluntary organisation

▪Ability to read and interpret a set of parish accounts

▪Good listening skills with the ability to read situations and to respond and challenge appropriately and effectively

▪Ability to relate to and value all kinds of people and traditions within the Church of England and to be able to relate confidently and appropriately to people in a wide range of roles, including congregation members, PCC treasurers, clergy, fellow diocesan officers and senior diocesan staff

▪be able to plan strategically, implement plans, motivate others and manage change;

Desirable

▪IT literate, including experience of using Word, PowerPoint, Excel and creative media software such as Publisher

▪A good understanding and experience of engaging with ministry, mission and financial issues at a parish level

▪Understanding of Church of England/Diocesan structures, processes and purposes.

▪Experience of developing web-based resources and social media communication
