Ryan Opera Center Audition Conditions

PRELIMINARY AUDITION PROCEDURE

Applications must be submitted via the Ryan Opera Center web page—lyricopera.org/RyanAuditions—and be accompanied by $25 application fee payment.

  1. Go to lyricopera.org/RyanAuditions and follow the instructions to download the Preliminary Audition Application.
  1. After downloading, please fill in allof the requested information and save as a Word file to your hard drive.
  1. Be sure to indicate your preferred audition date and/or time. If an audition site or day is full, or cancelled at the Ryan Opera Center’s discretion, you will be notified of other options. All scheduled times are final.
  1. Return to lyricopera.org/RyanAuditions and follow the instructions to submit your application.
  1. Applications without fee payment cannot be accepted nor can they be received by phone.All applications are considered confidential and will not be returned.
  1. Please note that credit-card processing of the application fee does not guarantee that an audition will be granted. If granted an audition, your $25 application fee is not refundable. If no audition is granted, the fee will be refunded to your credit card immediately.
  1. You will receive an emailnotice of your audition date and time approximately 2 weeks before the audition date. Applicants unable to appear for their scheduled audition may be eliminated from consideration.
  1. Be prepared to sing five operatic arias, including the recitative if appropriate. At least one aria must be in Italian. Oratorio arias and songs are not acceptable.
  1. Each audition will consist of singingone aria of your choice.At their discretion, the judges may ask for a second aria from your offered list. The Ryan Opera Center will supply an accompanist for the audition; however, applicants may bring their own accompanist if they prefer. The auditions will be videotaped by the Ryan Opera Center for reference purposes.
  1. The decision of the judges for all auditions is final. Judges forms and comments are the sole property of the Ryan Opera Center. Audition feedback will not be made available to applicants.
  1. Result/status letters for the Preliminary Auditions will be postmarked no later thanAugust 31, 2014.
  1. Applicants must agree to abide by these Conditions and not make any claim against any party to the auditions by reason of anything that may be done in connection with the auditions.

FINAL AUDITIONS

1.Phone invitations to the Final Auditions will be made no later than August 31, 2014.

2.The final auditions period in Chicago will beSeptember 18-22, 2014. Domestic round trip air transportation to Chicago and hotel accommodations for finalists will be provided by the Ryan Opera Center.

REGARDING ACCEPTANCE INTO THE 2015-2016 ENSEMBLE

If accepted as a member of the Ryan Opera Center, the artist will be under exclusive contract from late April 2015 through early April 2016 (exact dates to be determined), and may not accept any other engagements or enter competitions without first obtaining written permission from the Ryan Opera Center. If, prior to the artist being accepted as a member of the Ryan Opera Center, s/he has been contracted for any engagements or entered any competitions which fall during the Ryan Opera Center contract year, such engagements and/or competitions must be discussed with the Ryan Opera Center Director and written clearance secured before the artist participates in the final auditions.

REMINDERS

  • Fill out the form completely and follow the outlined procedure to submit your application.
  • Send in your application AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, especially if you have a specific date/timerequest; sites often fill before the application deadline.
