Job Description

Post title: Deputy Headteacher

Salary range: L16 - 20

Responsible to: Headteacher

The appointment is subject to the current conditions of employment for Deputy Headteacher’s contained in the School Teacher’s Pay and Conditions Document, The Education Act 2002, the required standards for Qualified Teacher Status and any other current legislation. This job description may be amended at any time, following discussion between the Headteacher and the Deputy Headteacher, to reflect changes in the job commensurate with the salary and job title and will be reviewed annually.

The tasks and duties below are in addition to the normal requirements of a class teacher. The Deputy Headteacher is also expected, as an essential part of their responsibilities, to:

·  Promote the interests of the school as a whole

·  Observe and uphold the values of the school

·  Facilitate the work of other staff

·  Contribute to the overall vision of the school

·  Lead all staff by example at all times

Leadership and Management

1.  Deputise for the Headteacher in her absence

2.  Strategically work in partnership with the Headteacher, staff and Governing Body to determine the vision and direction of the school

3.  Play a lead role in the day to day running and organisation of the school

4.  Support and uphold all requirements of all school policies

5.  Lead staff in the management of behaviour and discipline

6.  Monitor and evaluate the performance of other staff supporting and directing them as appropriate

7.  Promote positive relationships with parents/carers and other professionals to ensure the most positive outcomes for all pupils

8.  Maintain and continue to develop effective relationships with the Local Authority and the community

9.  Contribute to the professional development of staff, including induction of those who are new

10. Assist in self-evaluation and the shaping of the Development Plan

11. Assist in the appointment of high quality staff

12. Motivate and support others effectively through periods of change

13. Ensure equality and inclusion are at the forefront of all work practice

Teaching and Learning

1.  Ensure that all teaching staff are able to carry out their teaching duties in accordance with the schemes of work and National curriculum and to a high standard

2.  Work with the school as a whole to develop a broad curriculum that targets the broad needs of our pupils and prepares them for their lives beyond school

3.  Line manage and regularly liaise with support staff to ensure that they are empowered to assist teaching staff and aid pupils to maximum effect

4.  Ensure that pupils are set realistic targets which are reviewed and modified as required

5.  Oversee and co-ordinate rigorous assessment of and for learning

6.  Ensure that pupil’s individual learning needs are recognised and addressed across a broad curriculum

7.  Support the development and use of technology to support teaching and learning

8.  Oversee personalised learning and opportunities for relevant accreditation

9.  Alongside the Headteacher monitor, review and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning to ensure all pupils reach their potential

Standards and Quality Assurance

1.  Set an excellent example in terms of dress, punctuality, attendance and behaviour

2.  Attend and participate in open evenings, performances and other school activities outside the normal school opening hours

3.  Attend Senior Leadership meetings, staff meetings and staff training opportunities

4.  Ensure all staff recognise their role as part of a team where high expectations are the accepted norm

5.  Ensure all communication systems are used to maximum effect

6.  Monitor the quality of the provision with all stakeholders

7.  Utilise systems to monitor both real and perceived impact from different stakeholders

8.  Utilise systems for collection and analysis of data to inform future planning
