1.0 Rationale:
In developing countries, the scientific literacy among its citizens is generally notkeeping in line with average level attained in industrialised and technologically developed countries. The aim of this course is therefore to increase basic scientific literacyamongst the Colombo Plan’s developing member countries.
2.0 Objectives:
The objectives of this training programme are to develop:
- teachers’ capacity to improve teaching and learning of science;
- teachers’ and central office supervisory staff’s capacity to design and develop teacher’s guides and lesson plans for improving teaching and learning of science;
- teachers’ capacity to act as mentors and/or leaders of other teachers on curriculum and subject matter issues; and
- teachers’ capacity to work collaboratively with other teachers and to reflect on the subject matter and student learning
