Tribe hosting El Capitan cleanup

The Santa Ynez Chumash Environmental Office is scheduled to host a beach cleanup at El Capitan State Beach from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21. The event is open to the public but reservations are requested.

The cleanup is part of a statewide effort to keep oceans and beaches free of debris that can harm habitat, wildlife and visitors. The event will include a morning beach cleanup, followed by a barbecue lunch, games, educational activities, and raffle for participants.

There is limited free parking at El Capitan for those participating in the cleanup. Also, a free shuttle will leave at 8:30 a.m. and return by 4 p.m. from the Tribal Hall, 100 Via Juana Lane. Seats are limited and reservations are required.

Participants who RSVP by Monday, Sept. 16 and arrive by 9:30 a.m. will earn extra raffle tickets.
