The Nu Delta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society recognizes its mission to provide leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research. Research grant opportunities are one expression of that mission. Therefore, the members of Nu Delta authorize the allocation of funds to support members and alumni who are currently engaged in nursing research or who have studies under consideration by Institutional Review Boards. The following guidelines and restrictions apply.

Purpose of a Research Award
To encourage nurse members of Sigma Theta Tau, Nu Delta chapter to contribute to the advancement of nursing science through research.

Research Funding
Allocation of funds is based on the quality of the proposed research, including both the relevance and potential application to nursing, and the need for funding. Applications from novice researchers who have received no other research funds are encouraged. Preference will be given to Nu Delta members, other qualifications being equal. Additional research funding is available from Sigma Theta Tau International, and applicants are encouraged to explore all funding sources possible in addition to the Nu Delta grants.

Eligibility Criteria

·  The applicant must be the Principal Investigator for the research and a current member of Nu Delta.

·  The applicant must currently hold a valid license as a Registered Nurse or be a student in good standing at Cleveland State University. Student applicants may be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs at Cleveland State University.

·  The research must be in progress or scheduled to begin before the next deadline date (May 1 of the year following application).

·  The researcher must be willing to acknowledge support from Nu Delta in the dissemination of research findings and submit a summary report of findings (or progress to date) to Nu Delta members within one year of the award.

·  The applicant must submit a completed research application package by the application date and be ready to implement the research project when funding is received. Notification of awards will be made on July 1 and funds will be distributed on September 1 of the year of application.

·  Completed research projects will not be considered, but an award may be renewed for one additional year only if the study remains active in data collection for the second year.

The Research Award Task Force shall be responsible for the recruitment of applications and the determination of eligibility for received applications. The Task Force shall consist of three members of Nu Delta and shall serve at the discretion of the Executive Board and membership. The Task Force shall review applications and make recommendations to the membership for allocation of two (2) awards not to exceed five hundred dollars each per year. Additionally the Task Force will establish guidelines as necessary or propose changes to the established guidelines as necessary to support the research mission of Nu Delta chapter. Members of the Task Force who may themselves make application for an award must excuse themselves from consideration of their own requests and the current President of Nu Delta shall then serve as the third member for review of that application.

Application Procedure

The following format is to be used for award applications. All applications should be typed on standard letter size stock in a Times new Roman or Ariel font 10 or 12 (APA format).

Page 2 State briefly (300 words or less) the aim and purpose of the research, the significance of the research to nursing, and identify the theoretical framework for the study. Include the research questions or objective and hypotheses.

Outline (300 words or less) the design, sample, methods, instruments, and statistical analyses proposed. Include a timeline for the study. Copies of instruments may be attached as an appendix.

Page 3 Submit a budget for the study to validate need for financial support. Include supplies, mailing costs and consultation fees, but do not include wages for study personnel. The budget should be all inclusive and exceed or equal the amount of the award. The amount of funding may be equal to or less than the budget of the study under consideration. Identify other funding sources for the study and state whether application to those sources has been or will be made. Identify any financial support for the study already awarded.

Page 4 If the applicant is a student, a letter of support from their advisor or chairpersons must be included. The writer should identify the relationship to the applicant and address the applicant’s ability to complete the study.

Submission of Application

One original copy of the application with actual signatures and three copies of the complete application must be submitted to Nu Delta on or before May 1 of any calendar year for consideration. Notification of awards will be made on July 1. Funds distributed on September 1. A report of the findings or progress of the study is to be submitted by the awardee to Nu Delta on May 1 of the year following receipt of the award.
