2017 Application and Guidelines

The Nikki Geragotelis (Fry) Memorial Scholarship was established by the family and friends of Nikki in honor of the life she lived. The goal of the scholarship is to keep Nikki’s memory alive by helping students continue their education. Throughout her lifeNikki had a “walk-on” spirit. She worked hard and enjoyed people.Successful applicants will exemplify Nikki’s qualities ofsportsmanship, athleticism, integrity, hard-working nature, and friendliness.Candidates are positive and reliable teammates, givingtheir best every time they step on the field whetherat practice or for a game.

Award: $1000

One scholarship will be awarded to cover costs of tuition at any accreditededucational, technical or vocational institution.

Eligibility:

1) Applicant must be a current year graduating senior from Homer High School.

2) Minimum GPA of 3.0

3) Applicant must have participated in one or more competitive sports within the last 4 years.

4) No one related to the donor/s, members of the review committee, the Homer Foundation Board of Trustees or its employees shall be eligible for this scholarship.

Selection Criteria:

This is a competitive application process. Selection will be made without regard to race, color, national origin, gender or sexual orientation of candidate. Applicant will be judged on:

1) Personal Statement

2) Resume

3) TwoLetters of Recommendation, from adults not related to you, at least one from a coach or trainer that has worked with you.

Personal Statement:

Be sure to highlight your interest and participation in competitive sports, demonstrated good sportsmanship and hard work, and involvement in other extracurricular activities or community service.

Resume:

Please attach a current resume (one page) highlighting the following:

Extracurricular Activities: Participation in competitive sports, as well as other school clubs and activities.

Recognitions: Accomplishments or recognition you have received during your high school, especially team awards such as most reliable, most improved, best sportsmanship, most goals scored, etc.

Volunteer/Community Activities: Community activities and volunteer projects you are involved in outside of school.

Employment: List any work experience you have had during your high school career.
