The First General Assembly of the 66th International Convention of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International was called to order at 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2013 by Second Vice President, Vickie Farris. Past International Council President 2004-2005, Coleen Cape, conducted the opening ceremonies. The following flags were posted at the podium throughout the entire convention: American, Australia, Canada, Virginia, Kansas, ESA, ESA Foundation, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Easter Seals. The State Presidents and Regional Council Presidents presented their flags during the Hope For Heroes program on Thursday afternoon.
Pat Griffin, 2002-2003 International Council President, introduced the Executive Board to the general assembly.
President Susan Winters, declared the First General Assembly of the 66th Annual Convention of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International in session. Suzy thanked Coleen Cape for the beautiful and inspiring flag ceremony acknowledging that Coleen asked us all to “Embrace the Power – Free your Spirit” and she continues to free that spirit with her expression of patriotism to our flags. Suzy extended her special gratitude to John Ickes for the beautiful bag pipe playing and to the US Navy Honor Guard for their presentation of the colors. Suzy thanked Pat Griffin for her introductions of the Executive Board. Suzy felt Pat’s theme “Celebrate the Magical Moments” made her the logical choice for the presentations.
President Suzy presented Vickie Farris, Second Vice President/General Convention Chair. Vickie welcomed everyone to Virginia and introduced 2013-2014 Virginia State President, Carol Campbell. Carol gave her welcome remarks to the attendees.
Vickie Farris introduced the local Convention Co-chairs Sue Foy and Marie LaDuke. Sue and Marie gave a few welcoming remarks. They presented President Susan Winters with a certificate of recognition from Robert F. McDonald, Virginia State Governor.
Suzy gave special recognition to Flora Burns, 2000-2001 IC President for all her hard work for this convention. Flora introduced Barbara Ciara of WTKR-TV of Norfolk. Barbara gave a warm welcome and a gracious thank you for all ESA does in the communities. Suzy thanked her for her time and efforts to bring such a warm welcome to this convention. Later Barbara presented ESA President, Susan Winters with “People Take Action Award” given by the Channel 3-TV Station for all the wonderful work done by members of Epsilon Sigma Alpha.
Suzy introduced Barbara Campbell, 1995-1996 IC President and PICPA Chair who recognized the following Past International Council Presidents in attendance:

Suzy recognized her 2012-2013 State Presidents – Suzy’s Magic Makers, and Deb Hughes, State Presidents’ Chair.
Vicky Jones recognized her 2013-2014 State Presidents – Vicky’s Sweethearts and Denise Holdaway, State Presidents’ Chair.
Suzy recognized First Timers who are wearing purple flowers on their name badges and encouraged the membership to greet them this week. Close to 50 first time convention goers are in attendance. One new pledge was in attendance.
Other special guests were introduced: Charlotte Carloni, Tracy Swanson and Cathy Lyons from Headquarters, Donna Young, Coordinator of Groups and Organizations at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Janet Jamieson, Manager of Communications and Corporate Relations at Easter Seals.
Chaplain, Judi Grefer gave an opening thought for the day.
Roll Call Report – Sandy Alexander, Recording Secretary reported that roll call information was submitted by the State Presidents and verified by the Credentials Chair during Credentials on Wednesday morning.

Correspondence – Maureen Wells, Corresponding Secretary read a letter from BJ Clark, ESA Executive Director, expressing her regrets and reminding everyone about the “Power of ESA Friendship”.
Minutes of the 2012 International Convention – President Suzy dispensed with the reading of the minutes of the 2012 International Council Convention since they have been approved and distributed by Article VIII – Duties of the Elected Officers, Section 1, of the International Council Bylaws.
Treasurer’s Report – Rickie Brown an itemized treasurer’s report has been distributed on each chair and only totals will be given.

President Suzy called for nominations from the floor for each office, according to Bylaws Article 6 – Elections, Section 2. Hearing none the chair declared the nominations for the 2013-2014 elected offices of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International closed.
2016 IC Convention Bids – Vickie Farris, Second Vice President stated two bids for the 2016 International Convention have been received. One from Midwest Area Regional Council to be hosted in St. Louis, Missouri, at Union Station Double Tree Hotel, Rosanne Robertson Chair. The Rocky Mountain Regional Council to be hosted in Loveland, Colorado, Embassy Suites. Bid presentations were given by each council, Emmy Neustrom and Rosanne Robertson, MARC, and Mary Humphrey and Bobbie Massey, RMRC.
Article X –Convention, Section 3, states the site of the IC Convention shall be determined by a ballot vote of the membership at a convention three years hence from bid submitted.
Section 4 The Second Vice President shall provide site ballots, if needed, for distribution by the Credentials Committee. Selection shall be determined by a plurality vote cast by delegates and proxy.

The ballot box for the election of IC Officers and the Convention Bids will be open
From 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Presidential Foyer on Level 3 of the Convention Center. Election Head Teller, Pat Ludwig, will bring the Ballot Boxes to the Coral Sea Board Room. The Ballot Boxes will close promptly at 7:00 p.m. At that time the doors to the Coral Sea Board Room will be closed and the tellers will begin the counting. The Head Teller is instructed to report the results in writing to the President immediately following the count.

Easter Seals Presentation – Tammy Gregg, Easter Seals Chairman
Janet Jamieson, Manager of Communications and Corporate Relations at Easter Seals was introduced. There will be a 30 year commemorative silver charm for sale. Over seven million dollars had been raised by ESA. Suzy was presented with a plaque from the Easter Seals Gala for funds raised by ESA. Camp Hope is for children of deployed US Military families. An Easter Seal Camp Hope military family was introduced. Michelle gave a presentation about the benefits of Camp Hope to her special needs son, James. Specific art and craft supplies were donated.
