Membership
Research: Peter Simmonds will take over Research Sub Committee.
1. RP-1478 is a project on Air Infiltration, sponsored by TC-4.3 and we agreed to co-sponsor. PES has recommended a contractor selection. TC-9.12 currently has no membership on the PMS. Tom Kroeschell was recommended and accepted as a member of the PMS.
2. Lynn Werman and Ray Sinclair have agreed to put together an RTAR on Measurement of differential pressures inside and outside of high rise buildings at various heights.
a. The contractor at Trump tower initially agreed to install some sensors in the building but the owner was not consulted. We should request permission to install these sensors at the bottom, middle and top of the building.
b. We can then submit a URP for the installation of the sensors and data loggers inside and outside the building at the first floor, top floor and in the center of the building. We would also want to get temperatures in and out as well as wind speed at the three outside points.
c. The data could be used to check stack effect pressures.
d. Luke Leung has a contact at the Berj Dubai building to attempt to do the same there to provide comparative information.
3. Chicago Minutes: Validation of Atria Exhaust requirements from CFD analyses vs. actual smoke exhaust requirements by physical test in field conditions was suggested by Brickman.
4. Chicago minutes: The High Rise design guide was done for Commercial buildings. Perhaps we should consider a design guide for mixed use or retail or residential. Harvey Brickman will work on an RTAR.

Program:
1. The Chicago program we sponsored was a success in spit of the commercialism complaints.
2. Orlando: Seminar on Rehabilitation of two old Chicago High Rise Buildings. Peter has two possible speakers and has submitted this for a one hour slot. Baumann has a possible program.
3. Seminar Montreal - Back to Basics –- “Design Characteristics for High Rise Buildings” (Simmonds)
4. Seminar (Albuquerque)- Natural Ventilation, is it viable in Tall Buildings? Dryer vents and Kitchen hood exhaust consideration in tall residential buildings. This air must be mechanically delivered. Are there naturally ventilated buildings in various cities around the world that can be presented? Chicago code requires operable windows in residential buildngs to provide natural ventilation.
5. Seminar: Sustainability Comparison in tall buildings. This could be a comparison of buildings on three continents. Gill to chair. Possible papers by Baumann, Leung and Simmonds.
6. Seminar on the design of stack effect calculations vs. wind tunnel testing. Ray Sinclair.
7. What is the direction of high performance tall buildings and how do they fit in the city of the future? The Tall Building Council is starting the development of a sustainable tall building design guide. The directioln of Net Zero design in tall buildings. A tall buiding can have a lower carbon footprint that the same building area spread out horizontally.
8. What specific topics are required or of interest for high rise buildings?
9. Seminar for Las Vegas on the life safety requirements of tall residential buildings in Las Vegas.
10. Las Vegas City Center project could be a good topic for a number of programs.
11. TC-9.12 will probably have to develop publishable papers to remain a viable TC. The consensus was that we have done a few very good publications and has presented some very good programs.
12. Possible presentation on ventilated facades should be considered.
Publications: Harvey Brickman will talk to Don Ross to find out if an update is needed for the Tall Building Design Guide and what should be included. We should find out how many copies of the Tall Building Design Guide have been sold.
Handbook: Nothing has been completed since the last meeting. Suggest that stack effect description from the Klote & Milke book be reviewed for possible use in a handbook chapter. Systems should be just a few sentences on the systems for tall buildings. Don’t need the central plants just cover the pressures. Emphasize coordination with the arch and structural engineer, the floor to floor height. Put together what we have and send it out to the members for comment. Send to John Carter for review.
ASHRAE did a tall building special in the High Performance Journal.
We should consider developing programming
