History:

The two internet billionaires Heinrich Cristof and Vassilij Gunther ,both from Brazil , launched the CG – air- yacht concept competition in May 2002 to create media focus on their new searchengine BRAZZA ™ . The search engine did so-so internationally , but the concept to win the competition did great .The first prize was complete development and production package of the craft , worth over 150 mill.US $ . The craft was the first truly consumer friendly air-ship concept .The prize was relatively low, app. 400000$ average total-depending on ground facilities .The revolutionary design used modular construction units .Many of these were available cheaply from Chinese and south American companies .Computerized controls meant that almost anyone could learn the basics of flying the CG-10 ,and training courses, simulators and certification tests could be downloaded from the internet .The modular design meant that the ship could easily be stored and operated without large hangars, a ground crew and other costs.

Using composite materials ,the CG-10 was built as a “rigid” airship. It consists of 5 lifting bodies that each contain a number of gas cells. The modules are connected with solid gas filled pylons to increase lift capacity . The whole main gondola has a helium envelope under the floor covers .

The air yacht has a laser sensor array that autocorrects the course should obstacles come within a pre - designated safety area .

It is powered by either : 1) the electro motor ,( a 4 hr battery charge). The solar panels provides 40% of the electricity used by the motor .It requires strong sublight for 12 hrs to recharge completely .The Lycoming engine will recharge the battery after 4 hrs. of operation ,NOTE! max. speed for electro motor is 30 kmh. NOTE! All onboard electronics is powered by the same battery.Prolonged use without recharge might deplete battery.( Back up for computer/radio has min.24 hr.duration)

2) The Lycoming Piston engine ( 40 hrs fuel duration in fair conditions) .This can also be used to recharge the battery .

3) Sails -or the age old technology of WindPower . In favorable conditions the CG-10 can sail on the wind for as long as the direction and wind type is what the pilot wants . In tests the CG-10 floated at a leisurely pace of on average18 km/h for over 2100 km over a period of 9 days in September/October 2003 on the Brazilian coast line . The engines were only used for some maneuvering ,and the craft returned to land with 96 l. out of 100 l .of petrol !

The typical owner would normally use more on an average flight , depending on conditions .But still the reputation as environment friendly and easy to fly led to a surge in orders in 2004 , and several foreign companies purchased licenses to produce the craft . At least 18 were built and sold by mid 2004 ,but the actual production number is unclear as the Twilight of civilization fell shortly after.
