The Minister’s Cat
First, review your keywords. Arrange students in a circle or horseshoe (or break class into groups). Have students claps hands to the rhythm. Start with A. Example: “The minister’s cat is an Angry Cat, the ministers cat is a Black cat” etc.Alternative:Instead of having students answer in alphabetical order, first write the letters a-z on the board. As students say their keyword, erase the word’s first letter from the board (or have students do this). Students can only say words beginning with letters on the board. This works great as a group game where each group race to erase all their letters on the board!
Swap Places
Everyone sits on a chair in a circle. Choose one child to stand in the middle and take away his/her chair. They (or you) can call: “Everyone swaps who ……..hasone brother, has a watch, who has blue socks, who likes sweets, etc.., The child in the middle needs to find a seat. The child left standing stands in the middle. Add rules!Who is the boss?
Review your key language, in the game below 15 to 20 actions using the hands feet and body.
1The object of the game is to find out who is the boss. Explain what being the 'boss' means.
2Students choose a detective, who leaves the room. The rest of the students (quietly) choose a 'boss' and a commentator.
3The students sit in a circle, all doing the same action (for example, clapping hands or snapping ringers). Ask the detective to come back into the room.
4The commentator says We're clapping our hands. The students continue to do this action but secretly watch the 'boss'. When the boss changes the action, all the players must try to do the same action almost immediately, so that the detective will not see who the boss is.
5The commentator always describes each new action. If the detective thinks he or she knows who the boss is, he or she says, ‘Stop! I think the boss is…’ If the guess is right, the detective joins the other students and the commentator becomes the new detective, leaving the room for a new round. The detective gets 3guesses before being given a penalty (example writing!)
