The Microsoft Word Formatting Activity

  1. Type the title and center it in using the alignment button.
  2. Type your name, date and period. Align them to the right of the page.
  3. Type the following paragraph onto you Word document:

Bruno Mars's Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show was seen by 115.3 million people, setting a new viewership record, eclipsing the likes of Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, and Madonna. And that was just a week after he won his second Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal for his album "Unorthodox Jukebox." Now after conquering the fields of pop music and television, Mars is naturally turning his attention to the movies.

Format the paragraph as it is shown. To indent, click on the “Page Layout” menu option. Click on the “indent” option. Look for the “Indent” and set the “Left” set the value to 0.2.

  1. Add a picture. Go to the Clement web page. Navigate to Mr. Mitchell’s TechArts page. Look in the Files section and find the MS Word 7.1.1 files. There you will find a link to the bruno_mars.jpg picture. Click on the link to open it in your browser. Right-click on the picture and choose “Save Image As”. Save the picture to your documents folder. Go back to your word document. On your menu bar at the top of the screen, click on the “Insert” menu item. A drop-down menu appears. Choose “Photo” then “Photo from File”. Find the picture of Bruno Mars in the Insert Dialogue Box. Click on “Insert” The picture will show up on the page. The only problem is that it moved all your stuff around. You can right click on the picture and choose “Wrap Text”. Click on “None”. That will allow all your text to return to the right positions. Resize the picture to fit in the center of the page under the paragraph.
  1. Add a fancy title. Click on the “Insert” tab. Look toward the right end of the tool bar. Find the “Text Box” icon. Click on it. Move the cursor onto the page. It becomes a “plus” sign. Left click and hold the button down. Drag the cursor diagonally to create a box. A blinking cursor will appear. Type “Bruno Mars” in the box. Change the font size and style to whatever you want. Try different colors, sizes, and effects of your text.

  1. Open the Internet browser and navigate to the Clement web site. Log in to the site. Open your “Files” folder and upload the file to your account.
