  • The current owners received the National Preservation Month Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of the preservation of a MatagordaCountyHistoricBuilding by the Matagorda County Historical Commission in 2008 and an award in recognition of dedication in renovating and protecting an historic home, from the Palacios Area Historical Association in 2009
  • Enjoy the water view across the city park without having t o maintain a private bulkhead.
  • Step out the door to the 1.5 mile lighted seawall walk for some serious exercise or a leisurely stroll.
  • The house has a Texas Historic Marker, but it is for the location, not the building so there are no restrictions imposed. Atop the pole holding the marker is one of the 3 signal lamps that used to be on a tall tower at the foot of 5th Street that warned of bad weather.
  • The front yard includes what is probably the oldest and largest magnolia tree in town, sky-duster palm trees that are nearly 100 years old, and a built-in beverage cooler in the front patio.
  • The large side and back yards provide ample parking and potential for a pool and/or additional buildings.
  • The annual Fourth of July fireworks are set off from the pier right across the street. We have the best seats in the house!
  • Rock groins, a long wooden fishing pier, a fish cleaning station, a boat launch and pocket beaches are all right across the street.
  • Tres Palacios and MatagordaBays provide excellent year-round saltwater fishing. The Gulf of Mexico provides commercial and recreational opportunities. Boats and fishing guide’s services are available to enhance fishing experiences.
  • The area is well known asone of the best spots for birding in North America, especially during the migration seasons and the winter months, when Matagorda.
  • County is home to more species of birds than anywhere else in the United States. Whether you're a lifelong birder orhave only a casual interest, you will be amazed at the diversity of birdlife in the skies and in the water right outside your door.
  • Although recently renovated the house maintains much of its original character. The house has 4 stain glass windows, all protected by storm windows. It has working, original pocket doors between the sitting room and the dining room, as well has glass doors with glass knobs.
  • The 3rd floor is one large room with window seats in each of the 4 dormers, an extra sink outside the bathroom, a spa system in the tub, and a spiral staircase leading to the widow’s walk on the roof.
  • The 1st floor hall includes displays of the history of the house and the school along with artifacts found behind the walls.
