PTA Board Meeting

February 9, 2016 – 6:00 pm

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at6:05 pm by Julie Simpson-Preston, President.

Attendance

Sharon Mahoney,Kristen Sidari, Kerry Foster, Kim Rodgers, Evelyn Oakley, Mary Beth Lowery, Jaime Smiley, Liz Ford, Dana Russell, Priyanka Patel, Julie Simpson-Preston

A quorum was established.

Approval of Minutes

Minutes presented from 12/8/15 and 1/12/16. Kerry Foster moved to disburse with the reading of the minutes and was seconded by Kristen Sidari.

President’s Report

Julie Simpson-Preston–CCPS Budget - Adding more school nurses, special education organizers, 3% teacher raise. County Council having annual awards dinner in April. Attended PTA Day at General Assembly.

Treasurer’s Report

Priyanka Patel – Winter Celebration brought in $3500 over budgeted. Fall Fundraiser brought in almost $26,000; $12,000 profit.

Committee Reports

  • Room Parent Coordinator

Nikita Liggon – not present; Valentine parties coming up

  • Yearbook

Liz Ford – sales as expected; now 100 short of our goal, but most usually order at last minute; Yearbook Committee is doing great job but is too large (24 members)

  • Sunshine

Kerry Foster – January and February birthday cards are going out on 2/10.

  • Spirit Wear

Jaime Smiley – pushing back sweatshirt design to fall; Spring contest will open soon

  • Reflections

Paige Ford, Abigail Sutton, and Scott Harritan going to District

  • Carnival

Kerry Foster - will go out Thursday; starts 2/23.

  • Exceptional Students

Evelyn Oakley –planning a “Get Ready for SOL testing” – habits to boost scores; possible date 3/15 at 6:30; Kim - Zumba teacher teaching kids during meeting; sign up on Google Docs

  • Rewards

Kristen Sidari –check came from December $400+; Box Top sheet went home today. Resource teachers get to use Kroger money. Martins – have $503 so far.

  • Father/Daughter Dance – Julie Preston is taking over the committee; masquerade ball – aiming for 3/11

Principal’s Report– Dana Russell - Mrs. Rose still in hospital; report cards go out on Monday

Teachers Report–Mary Beth Lowery; Ms. Irby is loving her new system; teachers thankful for classroom gifts; Field Day – Friday 4/29; rain date next Friday
