Annex 4: Q117 Comments (English translation)

Annex 4: Q117 Comments

------

1) Yes, but I have no comments – as I find the questions relevant and I am interested to hear the results of the survey.

------

2) My completion was probably influenced by a burglary 2 months ago.

------

3) Great that there is focus on this.

------

4) What can you win (for your participation)?

------

5) There isn’t any violence in our family what so ever.

------

6) In school I was a victim of bullying where I was also being hit/beaten. Due to this I have answered yes to the question regarding violence in school.

------

7) Physical violence from a teacher was only pulling my hair (near the ears) because I hadn’t done my homework properly.

------

8) I hope that my replies were satisfactory.

------

9) I was being bullied in my school days, including being beaten by my classmates a few times. This has resulted in a heavy depression.

------

10) I think it is a fine survey. Luckily haven’t been a victim of the kind of incidents you asked about.

------

11) I haven’t got anything to say, but I could not complete the interview without writing this comment, a bit strange..

------

12) I think it is a really good questionnaire.

------

13) I think it is very important to send signals which show that you are not scared and there are limits of what you should accept.

Being careful with your behaviour is also important

------

14) We have been a victim of 4 burglaries in the last year. It was the same guy and some friends who did it. The last one was not reported to the insurance company, as we were scared that we were not popular. In the previous burglary the stolen goods had a value of approximately 100,000 DKK. The last time he came the value of the stolen goods was approximately 15,000 DKK and this was pure loss. Very sad.

------

15) I think it is a fine survey, as I think that many people in Denmark are walking around and are being unsafe in there everyday life. Personally I am not very worried. But I know some who are...

------

16) My wallet has been stolen 4-5 times, and something from my car (broken window), have had stolen 2 white goods from a house under construction, and many bicycles from my household. All this longer than 5 years ago. But never with threats involved.

The survey is too long, and nothing shows you how many questions are left during you completion.

My arm is ”paralysed”....

------

17) I hope you find my replies useful.

------

18) Good questions.

------

19) The information I have written are solely from my private life.

My job as a prison guard results, as you can imagine, unfortunately from time to time in threats against me.

------

20) There are many things we can do ourselfs to create more safe surroundings.

------

21) Good an easy comprehensible questions.

------

22) I guess I was probably spanked once and while by my father and/or mother, and maybe I have also been hit/beaten by a teacher, but I don’t consider these things as real physical violence. It was very common at that time (I am born in 1941).

------

23) I was in a muslim marriage when I was younger and got 2 girls and they were being used in threats the first years after the divorce. To protect my girls I have never involved the police in this.

------

24) Luckily there are no violence in the neighbourhood we live in and we appreciate this.

------

25) It is a good idea with this statistics.

------

26) Relevant questions.

------

27) OK – as I have almost not experienced anything I avoid a lot of questions.

------

28) Here were I live the biggest problem is vandalism in relation to sport events held on the national stadium.

Likewise there are some gangs which are very apparent in the neighbourbood and you try to avoid them by walking on the other side of the street.

------

29) I have apparently been spared of a lot of things, but I guess this should also be covered by the statistics.

When I have been worried about potential violence against my children, it is due to the fact that my grandchild is living in one of the tough neighbourhoods in Copenhagen.

------

30) It is difficult to find out whether you should answer yes or no in case of minor incidents of violence from e.g. a friend earlier in your life. If you choose to say yes, then you should answer how many times it has happened within the last 15 (?) months og in this case you can’t answer 0, but only 1-400.

------

31) I live in a rural area.

------

32) Violence from my sister was only a slap in the face which was returned.

------

33) As I have never been a victim of any violence/threats/abuse what so ever, it is not something that is a part of my everyday life. Fortunately.

------

34) Easy accessible.

------

35) Fortunately I haven’t been a victim of violence or any other kind of crime.

------

36) I think it is an in-depth/thorough survey which isn’t too intimate. It means that you are not mentally affected once again by what happened many years ago.

I hope I could help you.

------

37) Now I am 71 years old, and when I was a child it was not uncommon that you were slapped in the face or beaten by a cane both at home and in school, if you had done something wrong or been naughty/bad.

------

38) I hope that neither I or anybody close to me will be a victim of violence or an attack.

------

39) OK

------

40) I have only lived in Denmark for 10 months and I am a foreigner.

------

41) I hope my participation could contribute to limit the occurrence of violence, sexual harassment, incest, etc.

------

42) Punishment in my childhood (before I was 15 years old) was only the mild kind which every child at that time was experiencing.

------

43) This is actually not a question, but you want a comment here.

------

44) No comments but happy to participate.

------

45) In connection with a burglary, my family and I are very dissatisfied with the police as they didn’t show up before afternoon a day after the incident, despite the fact that we had been sleeping in the house and we had light from a torch pointed at our faces. We think this is dissatisfying. The police just told us that they could come tomorrow.

------

46) At my workplace it was common with threatening behaviour from the clients. The workplace had surveillance camera, smoke alarm and security guard. The staff received professional help in order to set limits.

------

47) Lack of a ”statusbar” where you should be able to see how far in the interview you are. Otherwise ok.

------

48) You should conduct a survey regarding how visible the police is.

------

49) I didn’t correctly complete the questionnaire, as I was unable to add numbers in the columns (?) and thus was forced to write incorrect answers – this was annoying – but it didn’t work.

------

50) This was a good and very relevant survey. But it could be difficult to answer e.g. the questions on violence, as you sometimes may experience to be hit/beaten, pulled in the hair or similar just for fun, and then you don’t know whether or not these incidents should be included. I chose to omit such incidents.

------

51) I have lived a quiet and safe life.

------

52) I have nothing to add, as I am a privileged man who hasn’t been a victim of other kind of violence than empty threats from a couple of frustrated pupils.

------

53) It is written in the letter I received that you couldn’t find my telephone number. Have you tried checking the online phone number register – here I appear twice – both stationary and mobile phone number. Or you don’t want to use your phone???

------

54) I can’t remember when my father beat me for the last time – whether it was before or after my 15 years birthday.

------

55) Hope this will help other people.

------

56) It is a relevant survey.

------

57) I am an American who have lived in Denmark for ten years, so I am not Danish. I would encourage you to be careful when you write: ”...a survey regarding to what extent the Danes are victims...”

There are many nationalities who live here and pay their tax, and live a life free of crime – we also need protection. Thank you.

------

58) regarding part 1 of the survey. Our household consists of two adults who work at nighttime, thus theft/vandalism of cars mean that we were unable to go to work that night. There are no possibilities of public transportation or to drive with others as they have different office hours. The work is situated between 20 km and 35 km from our place of residence.

------

59) Not me, but my 18 year old son was a victim of violence New Years Evening in Copenhagen together with a friend from his highschool. (A very long description of this incident and its consequence follow but this has not been translated here!)

------

60) Sexual abused by my father. I was placed in a children's home/an institution, where sexual abuse among the children was ”common”. Some of the teachers who were supposed to take care of you also sexually abused the children.

------

61) Regarding physical violence from father and teacher. I have been beaten by a hanger or belt when my father wanted to punish me. From the teacher when he thought I couldn’t sit quietly in class. My school days 1959 – 1967. The cane was abolished when I was a pupil. But I have actually never been beaten by the cane, our teacher only slapped us in the head or pulled our hair.

------

62) The survey is relevant, but also a bit scary. I think there is a risk of creating more fear in the society when you ask these kinds of questions to a lot of people. But I understand that it is necessary to collect such data to examine the safety in general.

------

63) Maybe the survey should also cover your place of residence. Didn’t remember that I should write my postal code or similar. But maybe you are able to see this from my reference number? Otherwise a good survey.

------

64) The violence by my father was only a bit of spanking in my behind. It was probably well-deserved.

------

65) Lack of a ”Don’t know”-category in case of month of theft. I couldn’t remember, so I had to choose a random month!

Also weird that it was not possible to write that the incident happened in a shop or similar – I guess you should assume that a lot of thefts happen these places.

(Well, it is also a bit strange that you are unable to complete the survey without responding to this question by writing a comment...)

------

66) For some questions I actually didn’t have any answer, but it was not possible to the skip the question... This was e.g. the case for which month I had my bicycle stolen.

Furthermore I had to write the value of the bicycle I got back, but the only problem was that I didn’t get it back, so I had to write a value.

Furthermore, it is bad that you are unable to see how far in the interview you are as you have no idea how far you are and when the interview will end... This is a bit amateurish, and not what you would usually had expected from you (Read: Statistics Denmark).

------

67) I have never been a victim of violence or inappropriate behaviour – except from ”Viagra”-commercial junkmail (I am a woman).

------

68) It is not a super questionnaire – there are not comprehensive categories. My incident of violence happened abroad – which I was unable to mention. You ask me to answer which month my bicycle was stolen, but there isn’t a category named ”Don’t know” or similar...

------

69) Regarding the question on how many times in a former relationship. If you mean how many relationships then 3 long and some of a short duration but if you mean violent relationships then 0.

------

70) I have never really experienced any kind of violence againt me but I have still seen others beeing violent against other people in the city on discotheques.

------

71) It has become unsafe to go out in the evening and I am afraid to take the citytrain from the train station in specific Copenhagen suburb.

------

72) No, no, no I have no questions to this but I would like to participate another time.

------

73) I have participated in this survey by phone during a dinner party with invited guests. Highly inconvenient time for a long telephone interview. Today I have received your unnecessary reminder.

------

74) One of the last questions was related to who had been violent against you in your childhood. I answered mother and father. But I don’t know if a slap in the behind because I had been bad/naughty counts as a violent incident. I also answered ”my sister” but it has been mutual behaviour in our case. Didn’t know whether or not this should be considered as a violent incidence.

------

75) I am a bit surprised that you are not asking about psychological violence as I believe this is as widespread, and also as severe, if not more severe than physical violence.

------

76) I think it is a good survey.

------

77) Difficult to answer questions regarding physical violence before the age of 15. I have been spanked in the behind by my father as a child and was fighting with my brother, but I do not consider this as physical violence. Maybe the question should have been formulated using the word ”abuse”.
