The Madison Junior School girls’ soccer team played hard, but struggled at the start of the year. They finished with a 2-7-1 record.

The team was coached by Anthony Finn who works at the local elementary school, Kings Road School. A total number of 18 players participated. Their starting team includes Juliana Di Lauri, Carina Pacheco, and Kayla Bailey playing goalie too. Kayla Bailey and Gwyneth Canfield played defense. Their offensive side starts with Isabelle Rojas and Izzie Saurer, Sophia Haralampoudis, Maeve Franklin, and Maya Shukla. The team’s mid fielders are Liza Mullet, Alexis Jackson, Grace Hurley, and Olivia Miller.

The team’s first win came when they played Long Hill. The team had great teamwork and defeated the very good opponent. The soccer team won with a surprising score of 6-0. The team was able to beat Long Hill even with some players missing including their center middle fielder Liza Mullet. Their goalie had an amazing game with zero goals scored on her. The goalie play sparked there offense to score all 6 goals. Great win by the girls’ soccer team.

One of their, out of many, all star players is Sophia Haralampoudis played center forward. She had the most goals out of the whole team. In addition she is only in 7th grade. She proved she can keep up with the older grade and exceed at being the best goal scorer.

They rotated goalies between Juliana, Kayla, and Carina. They did this so all of them get to play on the field besides playing goalie. Karina showed a lot of progress since the beginning of the season. Kayla, who had just recently started playing this position, had proven to be fit for the position. Juliana had a strong kick helping the team clear the ball.

Alexis Jackson scored 2 goals after overcoming the challenge of switching from defense to offense. One of the goals was an amazing goal assisted by Liza Mullet. The goal was shot a little past the middle field line and soared over the goalies hands and into the net almost hitting the crossbar.

The team had improved on their dribbling, passing, shooting, and defensive skills. They began the year showing they had their work cut out for them, but they worked hard on improving their skills and becoming well-rounded soccer players. These improvements showed in their tournament game at Kinnelon. Although they were defeated, it was a very tight game which was tied at half time.
