Role Description for the Minister of St Francis’ Church

This role description should be read in conjunction with the vision, aims and objectives set out in the Church Profile, and the guidance or standards relating to professional conduct applicable to the post holder’s ordaining denomination.

The role is for a minister who will lead us into the next stage of our journey.

We are praying for a minister who brings and displays the following:

Spirituality

  • Adeeply rooted personal faith and a desire to seek and wait upon God and His will
  • A creative and imaginative spiritual leader, pointing others to Christ.
  • Maintains a balance in their own life between ministerial work and recreationand uses support for own spiritual growth through a spiritual companion and retreats (or similar).

Worship and Preaching

  • Engaging preacher, presenting the Gospelwith creativity and conviction, and in ways, contexts, and places that connect with contemporary life in our community.
  • Comfortable with our current mix of services, but actively committed to developing this to reach a changed and changing community.
  • Actively shares the lead in worship with others, including authorised ministers of the LEP partners, and identifies, encourages and equips those who lead.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Although being a minister ordained in one of our three denominations, and respected as such, will appreciate that as Minister of an LEP they represent all three and will do so with integrity.
  • Will take a lead in the ongoing development and implementation of mission plans, involving others in this work, and deploying good communication skills to ensure that our vision and plans engage the hearts and lives of the local church.
  • An inspirational leader who displays the ability to engage others in their passion for the Gospel.

Discipleship, Learning and Nurture

  • Actively committed to the nurture of spiritual growth and discipleship in Church Members of all ages,encouraging and supporting them to use the gifts and skills that God has given them.
  • In leading this aspect of our life actively recognises that our discipleship is one of mind, body and spirit, taking seriously the challenges of contemporary life and seeking to help us to live faithful and publicly Christian lives in a complex world.

Evangelism and Concern for Social Justice.

  • Proactively builds relationships, engages with the whole community, and plays a full and visible part in community life.
  • A leader in mission who will help us develop our life and worship so that we continue to present Jesus’ invitation to discipleship to our community in engaging and persuasiveways.
  • Is willing and able to engage with children and teenagers, building on our involvement with schools and clubs, and performing a representative and meaningful role as school governor.

Pastoral Care

  • Oversees an effective model of pastoral care within the congregation building on the work of those within the church already involved in this ministry.
  • An approachable and an active listener, displaying grounded understanding, practical wisdom, and compassionate faithfulness in their care for others
  • Shows an active appreciation that in the care they offer to the wider community they display and make tangible the love of Christ.

Stewardship and Parish Organization

  • A capable chair of meetings who demonstrates that careful listening is a gift, voices are heard, but that clear decisions are taken and implemented.
  • Is well organised in the management of their own work and that of others, recognizing the need to set and implement clear policies and procedures for paid and voluntary staff.
  • A team leader and team player, delegating effectively to share work load and enable individuals to grow and develop.
  • Willing and able to take the lead in strategically managing and organising all resources, people, time, building and finances.

Ecumenism and links with other bodies

  • Willing to work with other local denominations, and by agreement lead services in other local churches of our sponsoring denominations
  • Value, work with, and encourage others who serve the community
  • Participate in and contribute to the life of the Anglican Diocese anddeanery, the Methodist circuit, and the URCSynod. (It is understood that no one can be in three places at once and this responsibility is very extensively shared with lay representation to all three denominations)
