JOB TITLE / Lead Kennel Technician
REPORTS TO / Kennel Supervisor

Job Summary

The Lead Kennel Technician is an important part of the Animal Defense League’s shelter services team. This position includes a shared responsibility for the care and well-beingof ADL’s resident canines, as well assisting in the supervision and management of the kennel facility staff. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent organization and management ability, as well as customer service skills that provide a high level of pleasant professional service to all clients, staff, and volunteers. Candidate will work independently and responsibly while observing all health and safety guidelines, and at all times contribute enthusiastically to the positiveculture and mission of the ADL.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Work collaboratively with the Kennel Supervisor to meet kennel operations staffing, scheduling, resource, or other needs.
  2. Assist in supervising training and implementation for all cleaning and sanitizing procedures for kennels and cages, including supplies management and inventory control;
  3. Assist in supervising training and implementation for all animal feeding, watering, and care procedures, including supplies management and inventory control;
  4. Assist in supervising training and implementation of all animal safe handling, behavior, and enrichment procedures and any associated equipment or supplies;
  5. Assist in managing all necessary canine housing, population levels, and documentation throughout kennel facilities;
  6. Assist in managing work schedules for all Animal Care Associates in the kennel facilities;
  7. Learn and utilize shelter database software as needed;
  8. Work with frequent interruption and changes in priorities;
  9. Provide support in other departments or collective tasks as needed;
  10. Conduct any related tasks as assigned by the department manager;
  11. Maintain personal appearance and behavior that meets the expectations of ADL’s mission, values, and relationship with the community, including clients, volunteers, employees, supporters, and animals.

Qualifications

  1. Must be at least a high school graduate (or equivalent) and possess a valid driver’s license;
  2. Experience in animal welfare, shelter, or customer service preferred, but not required;
  3. Must be in good physical condition, energetic, and able to work 7 days/week, including some holidays and weekends;
  4. Must demonstrate a positive and cooperative attitude toward all personal and professional efforts both in and away from the workplace.

Working Conditions

This position requires working both indoors and outdoors in all weather;contact with associated cleaners and solvents; contact with animals in residence, some with unpredictable behavior; exposure to the noise, waste, and odor associated with animal shelter populations.

Physical Requirements

This position requires good physical health and conditioning, and may require: standing for extended periods; lifting or moving of heavy objects; repetitive tasks with few breaks; long hours; and other physical demands associated with heavy manual labor.

Direct Reports

The Lead Kennel Technician reports to the Kennel Supervisor.

Wages & Benefits

This is an hourly, full-time position. Wages are commensurate with experience.
