The Lakes Medical Practice Patient Participation Group Meeting

Monday 17th May 2010 at 7pm

Attendees

Esther Charlton, Ros Niedt, Mary Harrison, Robert Charlton, John McCarthy, Judith McLeod, Dr Mark Plenderleith

Apologies

Carolyne James

Minutes of meeting on 19th April 2010 accepted by the group.

Request following further thought that EC would rather not at present wish to get involved setting up library. Agreed by group. Plan to add this to longer term goals for the group.

Bank Account

All three signatories to account have now attended Lloyds Bank with ID confirmation. Apologies from MP for the delay! Account should soon be open and cheque book supplied. The Lakes Practice confirmed opening amount of £100 as non-interest loan to the group.

Possible registration as charity with Charities Commission discussed. Some perks that go with this weighed up against the extra work/paperwork. No decision made but this needs revisiting at later stage.

Coffee Morning

Methodist Hall booked for Saturday 29th May 2010, between 10am and 1pm. Paid for by JM and receipt for £41.00 produced for reimbursement.

RN agreed to place advert for the coffee morning in Herald and contact Radio Cumbria the day before event to promote in their ‘What’s On’ feature.

RN confirmed supply of coffee, tea and biscuits for up to 50 people. RN and JML will pick up milk and cordial/juice the evening before.

Plan to arrive for 9am at the hall to set up refreshments and displays, events etc. JM agreed to meet and greet initially at entrance. Talk by MP and JM at 10.30 to introduce the group and explain aims. Also to explain about the CPR Challenge, and possibly draw the quiz winners.

MP to explain about changes occurring to the local hospital, as well as the wider changes to provision of services in Cumbria and Eden.

Prizes for quiz and CPR Challenge kindly supplied by local benefactor!

MP to set up projector or TV with information about CPR, choking, epileptic attacks etc. Also to try and get posters made promoting the general aims of PPG’s. MP to look into.

AOB

JM still keen to attend Nat. Assoc. Of Patient Participation (NAPP) Annual Conference on 5th June in Rotherham but family matters make this unlikely.

Other possible venues for educational events and PPG meetings discussed. Nothing definite agreed but would be nice to meet at local pub of an evening during the summer!!!

NAPP membership due late May 2010. The Lakes Practice to pay this fee for the present once reminder arrives.

Further discussions on a small library for the practice’s patients. Currently space restrictions in the main waiting room mean that the secondary waiting room would have the space for a few books, but possibly more leaflets, booklets, and flyers. The type of material we would be far less inclined to need to monitor in and out. ALL group to discuss further.

NAPP Membership Due

MP to pay annual subscription to National Association for Patient Participation before end of May 2011.

Dates of next meeting

Monday 21st June at 7pm at The Lakes Surgery.
