The La Crosse Area Society for Human Resource Management (LASHRM) is a dynamic local chapter dedicated to advancing the HR profession, professionally developing chapter members, offering programs intended to stimulate knowledge and topical conversations, and providing networking opportunities among members dedicated to or with an interest in the field of HR. LASHRM is also committed to providing affordable local resources for continuing education. In support of these objectives, LASHRM created a scholarship program where one (1) scholarship is awarded to an eligible member for continuing education or professional development:

One (1) - $1,000 LASHRM Member Professional Development Award
With these funds, attend a national SHRM conference, study for SHRM certification, attend a workshop, participate in professional improvement, return to school, and more.

Eligible applicant must be an active LASHRM member as of April 15, 2017. The professional development award is for programs not already covered by another source (i.e. your employer, scholarships, etc.), and the award will be for the cost of the program up to $1,000 incurred during the current calendar year. Only LASHRM members will be considered for the Professional Development Award.

Scholarship Criteria
Primary consideration for scholarship recipients isbased upon chapter involvement andcommunity service. Current students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale. Professional Development Award should focus on an HR or HR-related program; i.e., business,management, or labor relations.

Judging Criteria
The scholarship committee will evaluate scholarship applicants based on the following criteria:

  • 30%Chapter involvement and/or commitment to the La Crosse SHRM Chapter
  • 30%Leadership and service activities/work experience
  • 20%Essay and letter of reference
  • 10%Academic achievement
  • 10%Financial need

How to Apply
Application materials must be collected by the applicant and sent to LASHRM in one packet prior to the deadline. Application materials include:

  • LASHRM Professional Development Award Request (scholarship application on lashrm.shrm.org)
  • Essay from applicant, describing leadership, volunteer, and HR experience, along with the reasons for applying for this award
  • Letter of reference stating why applicant merits the award
  • Copy of applicant’s company’s tuition reimbursement policy, if applicable
  • Course description, program agenda, and cost pertaining to program

Timeline for 2015 Scholarship Program Launch

  • February 15, 2017: Scholarship application period opens
  • April 15, 2017: Scholarship application deadline
  • April 29, 2017: Scholarship committee to have made their decision
  • May 15, 2017: Applicants notified of results
