INTRODUCTION

The John Young Scholarship was created for students who are in the beginning of their art education at Windward Community College and are serious about going into the arts as a career.

ELIGIBILITY

a. The applicant must be enrolled part-time (two or more courses, 6 credits or more).

Community College. Student must be enrolled in at least one class in theFine or Performing Arts at Windward Community College to apply.

  1. Graduate of a Hawaii high school.
  2. Student must attend their home campus, Windward Community College in the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 and be enrolled at least 6 credits.

CRITERIA

a.Some degree of financial need, not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines. This will be determined by the need demonstrated in the student application and by the selection committee review.

b.The student must be in good academic standing at Windward Community College, with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

  1. Evidence of talent as determined by selection committee. Applicant must demonstrate a high level of talent in a given area or no scholarship will be awarded.

Please attach 5 complete and collated copies of the following:

1. This completed cover form as the cover sheet for each packet. (Original + 4 copies)

2. Transcript of W.C.C. grades (5 copies) (Star Print Out)

3. Two letters of recommendation. (Originals + 4 copies)

4. Evidence of talent (Two Art works). Example: video, dvd, drawing, painting, ceramics, etc. Student will be responsible for picking up evidence of talent in the Office of the Ceramics Studio, Room 216, Palanakila Building after selection process is complete. After June 10th, the committee will not be responsible for the student’s artwork and it may be discarded,

Finalists must be available for an on-campus interview by the selection committee.
