The Project

Huxhams Cross Farm in Dartington Devon is an exciting new farm being developed by The Apricot Centre. It is a 35 acre farm in conversion to Biodynamic status. The farm is designed using permaculture principles and combines agroforestry with these methods. The farm will grow Vegetables, Fruit, produce eggs,and a small amount of wheat and other field scale crops. The farm will also host a wellbeing service and have educational access for children. The farm is in its development phase but will be fully operational in 2018. The Fruit growing, and Wellbeing aspect of the farm project will be managed and delivered by other members of the team.

The Job Description

The Apricot centre @ Huxhams Cross farm is looking for a vegetable grower to start in February 2017. The post will be part-time 3 days per week to start with the potential to full time in 2018. Preferably Working Monday Tuesday Thursday 8.30-4.30. We will be growing a wide range of vegetables all year round starting on 3-4 acres of land with approx 1000 sq m of tunnels, going up to 8 acres over the next few years. We will be developing larger scale wheat, field potatoes and bean crops on a further 5 acres as the farm develops and would like to vegetable grower to be involved in that part of the farm especially with respect to the tractor work. We would also askoccasional Packing and distribution of fruit, vegetables, eggs and other produce for our Local Food Round, although this would be paid as extra.

We like to work as a team, and would be looking for someone who can focus on the vegetable production, but interact with the other work on the farm. We are looking for someone who is;

  • Passionate about growing organic/ Biodynamic vegetables
  • A good team worker
  • A competent tractor driver
  • Able to work at commercial speeds.
  • Someone who can organise their own work

You also might have;

  • Chainsaw Ticket
  • Understanding of Biodynamic methods, but need to understand organic systems as a minimum, we can train you in the Biodynamic/ Permaculture methods.

Pay;

  • 3 days per week potential to going up to full time in 2018
  • £16,477 (living wage) pro rata with potential bonus at end of year.
