Workshop Description

Supported employment serves two primary customers, the individual job seeker and the potential employer. Often employment specialists receive their education and training in human services, education, or rehabilitation studies. However, providing great customer service to employers requires specific skill sets as well as an understanding of business operation and management, missing in many human service education programs. This training will focus on the key elements that employment specialists must address to take care of business and deliver high quality customer service to employers while also securing great jobs for people with significant disabilities. This training will reveal the detailed strategies that work at every stage of the interface with the business community including the following:

  • Marketing your services with maximum business savvy.
  • Creating a “win-win” for employers and the individuals that they hire thorough targeted assessment of the individual’s skills and the needs of employers.
  • How to conduct job development that results in successful hiring decisions and sets the tone for the employment relationship.
  • How to provide on-site job training that does more than meet, but actually exceeds the employer’s expectations.
  • How to deliver on going follow along that guarantees repeat business for your services and continued employment for the individuals you support.

Taking Care of Business will prepare employment specialists to confidently address employers and employees with disabilities, knowing that they have the tools and insight to get the job done for both.
