The Hawai‘i Chapter of Delta Omega Invites All Interested Public Health Students to Submit an Abstract for the National Delta Omega Poster Contest Display

at the APHA 2018Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA.

The national Delta Omega Honor Society will be sponsoring its annual student poster session through the Academic Public Health Caucus during the APHA annual meeting, which will be held fromNov.10-14, 2018 in San Diego, CA.

The 2018 poster session will showcase the excellent scholarship and research of students in CEPH-accredited schools and programs of public health. Students whose work is selected by the national Delta Omega Honor Society will receive a $350 cash prize, which the OPHS will match for a total of $700. In addition, students will have the opportunity to present their poster during the APHA meeting. Student awards will be made during the Delta Omega Social Hour. The poster session will be held during the APHA scientific sessions, and the student abstracts will also be published on the Delta Omega National Webpage.

The Hawai‘i Chapter of Delta Omega plans to submit up to 3(2 graduate and 1 undergraduate) outstanding student abstracts for this competition, in order to encourage scholarship, research and practice among our students of public health, and also to recognize their achievements.

Student poster review and selection process:

  • Hawai‘i’s Delta Omega Society has assembled a review committee to help review all submitted abstracts for quality of research and scholarship.
  • Only student work that is completed by the submission date will be considered by the review committee.
  • Criteria for abstract review will include:
  • Evidence of student work
  • Clarity
  • Relevance to public health
  • Potential impact
  • Novel (e.g. original, innovative)
  • Use of sound methodology

Abstract Submissions are due by17:00 (5:00 pm) on Fri.,March30, 2018

  • All abstracts must be submitted via email for consideration to:
  • No late submissions will be accepted or considered
  • You must be a currently-enrolled OPHS graduate or undergraduate student to submit an

abstract

  • No group abstracts considered for this competition (an abstract may have more than one

author, but only one student can be listed as the primary author)

  • Acceptance of abstract does not imply Delta Omega Society financial commitment for

student travel or conference costs to APHA. OPHS will provide an award for a national contest winner.

Because the Delta Omega Student Poster Session is held as part of APHA’s scientific sessions, presenters must adhere to APHA’s guidelines. Students should review the guidelines before submitting an abstract for consideration:

General APHA guidelines for presenters:

Abstracts cannot exceed 250 words.

Special Instructions and Considerations:

  • Abstracts that have already been submitted to other APHA sessions (poster or oral) will not be accepted. Submitters must withdraw their abstract from other sessions, in order to be considered for the Delta Omega Poster Session.
