“Resurrection Lutheran Church exists to proclaim Jesus Christ as Savior, in an open accepting fellowship, a loving caring community that reaches out to all people to serve Christ through worshipping, teaching, learning, sharing and giving ofourselves to meet the needs of this congregation, the community and the world, as the Holy Spirit moves us.”

This Sunday is our “Back to Church Sunday”. The church office has sent out over 72 invitations – some people have already responded and have come back to worship – a blessing! They have been nourished in God’s Word and Holy Sacraments and were welcomed with open arms. Please continue to pray that one heart by one heart, the gentle nudges of our Lord will be felt. Pray that a desire to reconnect with God will happen; pray that we will be ready to respond to all those who come to our door, and that they will know that this is a home where they can rest in God’s care.

A SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION

Our Hymns are all found in the Red Worship Books (ELW) this morning. These worship books are located on the shelves under the chairs, or in the book holders in the pews.

Call To Worship

Sisters and Brothers in Christ, It is wonderful to be together.

It is marvelous indeed, that we would gather to worship God together.

This is the day that the Lord has made.

Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Creator of the world, eternal God,

We have come from many places, and are made welcome.

Redeemer of humanity, God-with-us,

We have come as we are, with all our differences, seeking common ground.

Spirit of unity, sustaining God,

We have come on journeys of our own, to a place where journeys meet.

So here in this place, let us take time together. For when paths cross and people gather, there is much to share and celebrate.

In your most holy name, ever-loving God, we pray. Amen

Our Scripture Reading for “Back to Church Sunday”

Gospel Reading Mark 2: 1-12 (NIV)

Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man!

Gospel Response Glory to you, O Lord.

A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

September 18th – Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost – Holy Baptism

Lord Jesus, we come to you now with prayers for our world, this community of faith and for those held within our hearts. A brief silence…

Loving God, thank you for being so forgiving and compassionate, more so than we can understand with the limits of our human hearts. For your love and care which is boundless, we give you our thankful hearts and offer ourselves to you. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Dear Jesus, through worship and praise we adore you. Bless the members of our Worship Committee – Jill, Brian, Ali, Esther, Lynnette, Corinne, Doreen & Rachel. May they listen to one another, to our parish & to your voice, with the intent of helping to provide a nourishing worship experience. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Compassionate Saviour, you know our needs and hear our prayers. Lay your healing hands upon and spread your love to the names we bring to you now - either out loud or silently from our hearts.…a period of silence for people to pray as they wish to…

Lord, hold each person close to your heart and keep them in your care. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, bless us so that we may find the courage to help spread your love and the gift of compassionate forgiveness, to a world in need. May our daily choices show that there is a better way, a way of hope and new life. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Loving Father, bless Alice with your guiding strength. As she grows in your care, walk with her daily; provide wisdom and courage to her parents, her godparents and her family. This we ask in your loving name. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Pastor Ali’s prayers…then

(Pastor) Into your hands dear Father, we commend all for whom we have prayed. Amen.

*TURKEY & SIGN-UP SHEETS

Fall Supper – Last year we had an overwhelming response for tickets to our Fall Supper. This year it would be wonderful to have 2 sittings so we can accommodate all who would like to come. To do that WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please consider joining the committee to organize the meal, offering to cook or supply another part of the meal and volunteer to help with setup, serving or dishes. THE SIGNUP SHEET WILL BE APPEARING SOON – WATCH FOR IT! To volunteer or for questions, contact Adri Booth at 653-4976.

*HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT THIS?

*The Lutheran Care Society is hosting a Christian Estate and Will Planning Seminar at Resurrection Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 15, 2011 – 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Guest speaker is Allan Schellenberg, MBA, Executive Director of Lutheran Foundation Canada. Please contact Lovina at or 306 374-9796 to register, as lunch is provided. There is no registration fee.

As Christians we are encouraged to be good stewards of our estate: by having a Will, by considering the changing needs of our heirs, and by supporting the ministry of the church as we’ve done throughout our life. If you were to die today, how easy would it be for someone to gather together all your relevant documents regarding your home, bank accounts, investments, insurance, etc. We encourage you to prayerfully consider this opportunity to get information and answers to your questions regarding your financial planning needs.

*Just For You, Dear Family & Friends of

Resurrection Lutheran Church

In this busy time that the fall season brings to us all, may you remember that you are held close in your Lord’s love and care.

Remember that He walks with you daily, that He is by your side and will be your guide in your life and with each choice that you make.

Philippians 4:6, 7 says… “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Take good care of one another, have a good weekend. Take some time to rest and relax, to pray and to listen, to smile at someone who needs a smile, to smell a flower, to offer a hand to someone in need, to be patient with others and to cherish each moment.

God’s Blessings of peace and hope to all of you!

See you on Sunday!

Rachel
