GOT GRIT? 5K & ONE MILE FUN RUN/WALK

May 20, 2017 at Orange High School in Hillsborough, North Carolina

General Information: Join us for this great family event. Endurance Magazine selected this race as first runner-up “best kid-friendly race” in the Triangle in 2016. There will be a 5k race with chip timing on a certified course. Also planned is a one Fun Run/Walk and a Toddler Trot for the little runners. All participants in the one mile event receive medals. After the race visit the ‘best post race’ refreshment table in area. We’ll have fruit, cookies, snacks and fantastic baked goods! After the award ceremony there will be a drawing for prizes. Child care will be provided while parents run the 5k. The race will be held rain or shine. No refunds. Profits from this event go for grit awards, special recognitions, and small scholarships for Orange County students.

Schedule of events on May 19:

4:00-8:00pm: Runners can register for the race and/or pick up their packets at the entrance of the Riverwalk near the parking deck and Weaver St. Market in Hillsborough.

Schedule of events on May 20:

7:00-8:15am: On-site registration and packet pick-up in the Orange High School gym.

8:30am: One Mile Fun Run/Walk starts and finishes on the track. The course does have some gravel paths and one hill. All finishers receive a medal.

9:15am: 5k race begins on the side parking lot near the baseball stadium. The race has chip timing. Awards for the 5k:

*The top three overall male and female finishers receive trophies.

*The first place male and female Masters (age 40+) receive trophies.

*The first place male and female Grandmasters (age 50+) receive trophies.

*The top three males/females in the following age groups receive unique awards: 9-under, 10-12, 13-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-over. Note, all 5k runners (age 12-under) who do not win an age group award will receive a medal.

There will be no duplicate awards.

10:15am: The Toddler Trot (ages 5-under) will start on the football field. This race is free. No need to register. Kids receive a blue ribbon and plastic yellow ‘got grit?’ hard hat.

10:30am. Award Ceremony in the gym and drawing for prizes. Must be present to win.

5k course: The race starts at the high school, winds through quiet streets and finishes on the track. The out and back course is certified (NC13016DF).

Location: Orange High School, 500 Orange High School Road, Hillsborough, NC 27278. There is plenty of free parking.

Shirts:Participants who register by May 10th are guaranteed a beautiful race shirt. After that date, while supplies last.

Special Bonus: To celebrate our race being recognized as runner-up “best kid friendly” race in the Triangle, the first 100 runners, age 12-under, get a free race hat or race water bottle.
